Markiplier‘s upcoming horror sci-fi movie, Iron Lung, will officially release across the world after the YouTube star struck a deal with international distributors.
The movie was previously scheduled for release on January 30 exclusively in the U.S, before U.K. theater chain Cineworld agreed to screen the film one day earlier on the other side of the Atlantic.
Iron Lung Is Going International
Markiplier broke the news to his fans in a tearful video on Friday, admitting that he wasn’t sure he’d ever be able to land international theater rights for the movie. Iron Lung has reportedly been in the works for several years, but the YouTube star wouldn’t release the film without theatrical distirbution.
Iron Lung has also secured a place in Canadian cinemas, with viewings currently organized in Saskachewan, Alberta, and Manitoba, with more to hopefully follow. Given the film’s huge online buzz and rapid ticket sales, more locations are sure to follow.
Although Iron Lung was originally only supposed to be shown in a small number of theaters across the U.S., the huge fan campaign and record-breaking ticket sales were enough to secure a wider release. AMC, Cinemark, and Regal were the first chains to get in on the action, offering nationwide screenings from January 30.
Iron Lung centers around a group of post-apocalyptic survivors who launch an expedition to a nearby moon harboring an ocean of blood. The film will signal Markiplier’s directorial debut.
