Presidential candidate Luís Marques Mendes announced this Wednesday, October 29, that he received the support of the president of the CDS-PP National Council, Luís Queiró, one day after the centrists postponed the decision on who they support in the January election.
“Luís Queiró, president of the CDS National Council, declared his support for me and agreed to join the Honor Committee of my candidacy”, states Marques Mendes in a note sent to the newsrooms.
Marques Mendes adds that Luís Queiró, “in addition to being a person of character and an intelligent and competent politician”, was parliamentary leader of the CDS when he himself held the same role in the PSD, a period in which Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa led the Social Democrats.
“There we had several common initiatives in favor of the country. For all of this, I am very grateful and touched by Luís Queiró’s support”, writes the candidate for President of the Republic.
The CDS-PP will decide next week to support one of the presidential candidates who have already presented themselves, the party leader, Nuno Melo, announced today, revealing that Paulo Portas will not enter the race for Belém.
Speaking to journalists at the party’s national headquarters in Lisbon, Nuno Melo said that the former leader, Paulo Portas, will not be a candidate for President of the Republic in the presidential elections at the beginning of next year.
“Dr. Paulo Portas will not be a candidate in these presidential elections. Until now we have had Dr. Paulo Portas as a possibility, but now it is clear that he will not be a candidate in these presidential elections,” he stated.
