‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Actress Struck, Killed by Car

An actress who appeared in the popular Prime Video series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” has died after being struck by a car in New York City.

Police told the New York Post that 60-year-old Wendy Davis, who went by the stage name Wenne Alton Davis, was struck by a Cadillac in Manhattan on Monday night. Davis was crossing an intersection, and was hit by a 61-year-old driver making a left turn.

The driver stayed at the scene as police and first responders arrived, and did not face charges as a a result of the incident. Davis suffered head and body trauma, and succumbed to her injuries after being rushed to a local hospital.

Davis’ Acting Career and Personal Life

Davis’ friend told the New York Daily News that she had recently returned home after visiting her family in Iowa. The actress lived in the same Forest Hills building with her cat for the last five years.

Davis appeared in one episode of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” as a cop, and she also played roles in popular series like “New Amsterdam” and “Blindspot.” She made her film debut in 2004’s “Ladies Room,” and also appeared in 2011’s “Shame” opposite Michael Fassbender.

The actress’ friend told the Daily News that she was heading to meet a friend for dinner and a movie, and that they began to worry as time passed. “She always texts me when she is about to leave or come home and I didn’t receive any text or anything and I found it weird,” Edward Reynoso said.

“I was worried. I was texting her and she didn’t respond. I’m numb to tell you the truth. I can’t believe it.”

Davis’ Appearance on the Award-Winning Show

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” aired for five seasons on Amazon’s Prime Video platform, serving as one of the first acclaimed hits of the streaming era in television. The show earned several awards and nominations, including both Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy wins for best comedy series.

Rachel Brosnahan, who played the titular Miriam “Midge” Maisel, won a primetime Emmy and two consecutive Golden Globes. The series also featured several veteran actors, including Tony Shalhoub, Alex Borstein, Jane Lynch and Marin Hinkle.

The show’s fifth and final season aired in 2023, after a run of 43 episodes.
