Meet the cast of Squid Game season three before they inevitably get killed in spectacular fashion

Squid Game season three is FINALLY here, and with it, cast members who will proboably meet a gory end by way of gunshot, fire, crushing, or falling. It’s going to be brutal.

Squid Game season three was initially supposed to be part of season two, but after director Hwang Dong-hyuk clocked the sheer amount of ideas he had, the plot was stretched across two seasons. For that reason, many of the cast members in Squid Game season three are returning characters and not brand new faces – but don’t worry, following the countless deaths in season two, these characters will feel like brand new with a greater attention to detail on their back stories and motivations.

Gi-hun is obviously the main cast member of Squid Game season three

We’ve watched Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, evolve from a deadbeat dad into the hero of the story – not counting that vile red haircut he sported at the end of season one. Much of season three will see our beloved main character fight back against The Front Man as he attempts to stop the games once and for all.

The Front Man is back, and as terrifying as ever

If Gi-hun is being a menace, you can bet The Front Man is right behind him trying to foil his plans. According to Tudum, he’s more motivated than ever to put a stop to Gi-hun’s rebellion.

“Gi-hun finally puts into action his long-harboured determination to upend this entire system. In-ho resumes his original role as Front Man and tries to stop him,” the actor said. “Front Man’s ultimate goal is to break down Gi-hun’s conviction through a psychological battle of beliefs, creating another game entirely.”

Ugh, Myung-gi is back

I am never going to be a Myung-gi apologist, and honestly, I’m hoping his pregnant girlfriend ditches him.

His actor Yim Si-wan said: “Myung-gi is a prime and extreme example of how a series of bad choices — and one bad, impulsive choice in particular — can ruin one’s life. Myung-gi doesn’t strike me as inherently evil. But, as you can see, chasing money led to many irrevocable consequences.”

Kang Dae-ho is also back, and has hopefully grown a pair

In the final episodes of season two, Dae-ho betrayed his friends by leaving them to fight the armed guards. He literally hid under his bed to save his own life, so he’ll naturally face the music in season three.

His actor pointed out: “He’s probably the most realistic person. Yes, he’s sly in certain situations. But if Squid Game happened in real life, I think most people would be like him.”

Detective Jun-ho

From the moment he appeared in season one, Jun-ho has been a favourite of viewers. It could be the brilliant performance of Wi Ha-jun or those cheekbones, but either way, if he dies we riot.

On returning to the games, Wi Ha-jun said: “His journey in Seasons 2 and 3 is fraught with challenges and shaky situations, through which he remains steadfast. In portraying him, I wanted to strike a balance between his personal emotional turmoil and professional resolve, highlighting his dedication to justice.”

Hoping No-eul gets more screentime this season

No-eul

No-eul, played by Park Gyu-young, was the first guard character we got a closer look at during Squid Game season two. She is returning for the final instalment, with its creator teasing a major twist.

“The name ‘No-eul’ implied extreme emotional pain and agony. She’s someone whose life isn’t easy, but she resolves to go on with renewed determination,” Park Gyu-young said. “So in that aspect, No-eul represents a basic level of respect and integrity. I portrayed her with that in mind.”

We LOVE Hyun-ju, and she’s a returning cast member of Squid Game season three

Played by cis actor Park Sung-hoon, Hyun-ju is a trans woman who entered the games to pay for medical treatment. She quickly became a favourite of season two, and thankfully, she made it out alive thanks to her military training.

“She’s so considerate of others, and she was kind, which is what I was initially most drawn to,” Sung-hoon said. “I feel very proud to see how many people root for her.”

Yong-sik has some work to do

Yong-sik entered Squid Game alongside his mother, Geum-ja, to clear his gambling debt. They were inseparable throughout much of season two, that is, until he abandoned her to die during the merry-go-round game. He’s got some work to do in season three if he wants to regain the trust of his allies.

Geum-ja better not die

We may low-key hate her son, but Geum-ja is as wholesome as they come. If they kill her off for pure shock value, we should all collectively march on the Netflix offices.

“I did feel a sense of responsibility being the ‘mother’ of Hyun-ju and Jun-hee,” her actress said.

Jun-hee will make it out alive, I’m calling it

Jun-hee is the pregnant girlfriend of Myung-gi, who also entered the games to get financial freedom from her baby daddy’s debt. Her actress Jo Yuri teased some pretty big developments in season three.

“Jun-hee is a woman who lives a very dynamic life,” she said. “She faces a lot of difficult choices [in Season 3].”

The creepiest cast member of Squid Game is back for season three

Seon-nyeo is a proud shaman who honestly scared a lot of us during season two. She was intense, to say the least, but that slap from Hyun-ju was so damn satisfying. She’s back to be jarring as hell in this season, but I’m calling her brutal death now. It’s going to happen, if only so I can sleep at night.

Min-su is back and hopefully not wimp this time

Min-su spent most of last season cowering in the corner as his few allies were butchered in front of him. Thankfully, his actor Lee David hinted at some character development for him.

“As the show progresses, there are moments where Min-su’s reason for playing is fueled not by money — but revenge,” he said. “That in turn brings out the guilt, which can be a huge factor in keeping someone tethered to this game.”

Nam-gyu is alone now Thanos is dead

Controversial cast member Thanos met his end towards the end of season two, leaving his lackey Nam-gyu alive for Squid Game season three.

His actor Roh Jae-won teased: “I think Nam-gyu was often bullied and looked down on. Even in the game, he was under the thumb of Thanos, who didn’t even know his name. But in Season 3, after Thanos dies, Nam-gyu feels like he’s the main character now.”

Woo-seok’s mentor died last season

Woo-seok is one of the few characters outside of the Squid Game, alongside Jun-ho, and following the death of his friend Park Jung-bae, he’s reportedly out for blood.

The Black Guard will be more central to the plot this season

Park Hee-soon

The Black Guard, played by Park Hee-soon, has been running his own criminal enterprise on the side of Squid Game, selling illegal organs harvested from those who are killed in the games. He’ll be more central to the plot in season three, butting heads with fellow guard No-eul.

Alongside these returning cast members, previously overlooked Squid Game participants are believed to be taking a more central role in the conclusion of the story.
