“We agreed to talk to each other again in a few weeks because we are practically closing this issue, because finally on November 1st the three-month deadline that we had both set for ourselves will close,” he indicated.
Migration and security outside the dialogue
The president of Mexico explained that the conversation was “very brief” and that it was limited to commercial issues.
“We only essentially talk about the issue of trade,” he noted and stressed that regarding migration or security “we practically no longer touch on that issue.”
Claudia Sheinbaum assured that there is an “understanding” with the US administration and that conversations will continue in the coming weeks until a final agreement is reached.
“We will talk again about the commercial issue in the coming weeks,” he concluded.
The statements come as both countries seek to resolve trade frictions derived from sanitary, environmental and regulatory measures imposed in recent months, within the framework of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC) and in the midst of the tensions that exist between the US and Canadian governments in this regard.
Tariff tensions
Las tariff tensions have increased since Trump took office on January 20 past, with taxes on sectors such as steel, aluminum and automotive, taxes on Mexico and a large part of the countries worldwide.
