The University of Michigan dramatically parted ways with Coach Sherrone Moore in a decisive action on December 10, but that wasn’t the first bizarre turn to emerge in the situation.
First, the university announced that it had fired Moore, saying he was “terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” because a university investigation discovered “credible evidence” that Moore “engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.” Alleged the university in a news release: “This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior. Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately.”
Then it was revealed that police in Michigan have “detained” Coach Moore in a city near Ann Arbor. VINE Link for Michigan shows Sherrone Moore was in the custody of the Washtenaw Corrections Division. The entry says he was booked at 9:40 p.m. ET on December 10, although it doesn’t say what for.

The situation was still unfolding, but ESPN reported that Saline, MI police had “detained” Moore and then turned him over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department “for investigation into potential charges.” Saline told ESPN that the force “assisted in locating and detaining former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore.”
Details were scant because the Saline Police Department referred the media to the Pittsfield Charter Township Police Department, which didn’t return calls, according to The Detroit Free Press. Although viral social media posts alleged to have details, these are not verified reports, and the Free Press indicated that police and the university have not clarified further why Moore was under investigation or detained.
