More Than Two Million Pounds of Jerky Sold at Costco and Sam’s Club Recalled—Here’s Why

According to a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announcement on Oct. 24, 2025, LSI, Inc. has recalled more than two million pounds of pork jerky made by a popular food brand that’s sold at retailers across the country. The recall was issued because of potential foreign matter contamination.

Golden Island Korean Barbecue Pork Jerky, the affected product, may be contaminated with wiry metal. Per the USDA, the company received complaints of wiry metal pieces in packages of their pork jerky. After review, the company determined the issue originated from a conveyer belt used during production.

The jerky has been distributed to and sold by Costco and Sam’s Club nationwide. Here are the recalled product details:

  • So far, 2,277,540 pounds of ready-to-eat Korean barbecue pork jerky has been recalled.
  • The affected packages include their 14.5-ounce and 16-ounce plastic pouches listed as “Golden Island Fire-Grilled Pork Jerky Korean Barbecue Recipe”.
  • The jerky’s “best by” dates range from Oct. 23, 2025 through Sept. 23, 2026; the date is printed on the sides of the packaging and has a one-year shelf-life.
  • The specific lot numbers and “best by” dates are listed here. A few lot number examples include 1703546, 1704790 and 1705979.
  • The recalled packages have the establishment number M279A inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The USDA is urging consumers who have purchased the product to review the lot numbers and “best by” dates on the packaging. Affected product should not be consumed; it should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for a return.

When recalls are announced, it may seem like something to easily pass by, but they can be potentially harmful or even deadly. It is always a good idea to check your pantry, cupboards, refrigerator and freezer for items that are recalled, and cross-check the lot numbers, “best by” dates and any other important information provided by the USDA or FDA in the recall announcement.

Some recalls, like this one, can be related to foreign matter contamination, while others may be related to potential bacterial contamination, a labeling issue related to allergies or other issues. Recalls can affect everyone—even those who are healthy individuals.

Several other recalls have recently been issued by the FDA and/or USDA, so it’s best to also check on those items if you have purchased them recently. The short list includes 70,000 Coca-Cola products, 92,000 pounds of breakfast burritos and ice cream sold at Publix. It never hurts to take a second look at these products if you think they may be hiding in your home.
