Mexico City.- In Mexico City, the majority of vehicles used as taxiexceed the limit of 10 years old established by the capital’s legislation, so the Local Mobility Secretariat (Semovi)headed by Héctor García Nieto, implemented a program to encourage dealers to replace their old units.
In the country’s capital, around 60 percent of the taxis that operate are older than mentioned, which is equivalent to around 70 thousand vehicles that would have to be replaced, as confirmed by the head of the Operational Directorate of Individual Public Transport, Víctor Hugo Arellano Jiménez, in an exclusive interview with Enough Diary.
Given this panorama, the Secretariat headed by García Nieto intends to benefit 390 taxi dealers this year, through its “Replacement Program for Sustainable Individual Public Transportation”, so that they receive credits from financial companies that help them buy vehicles to replace old units.
Those supported by the Semovthey will receive 120 thousand pesos if they purchase a car that uses gasoline, 150 thousand if it is hybrid, and 200 thousand if it is electric.
“Those who meet this characteristic of a vehicle that is more than 10 years old, and who have their concession up to date, up to date, I mean that they do not have possession debts, magazines, that they have everything up to date in terms of documents of their concession title, etc.; are candidates to enter the replacement program,” explained the official.
According to information from the Secretariat published in the capital Gazette, between 2019 and 2023 only 227 taxis were replaced through some program, however, Arellano Jiménez noted that those who do not receive any credit this year will not run any risk of losing their concession due to the age of their unit.
