MPUMALANGA CHURCH MEMBERS ROBBED DURING SERVICE
According to police, three unknown suspects allegedly stormed into the church while congregants were worshipping.
The suspects, armed with firearms reportedly, instructed everyone to lie down. They then robbed the congregants of their cellphones, cash, and car keys. They then fled the scene in a white VW Polo, which belongs to one of the congregants.
“It is further reported that the suspects discharged several shots inside the Mpumalanga church; however, no one was injured during the incident.
“Police and other relevant stakeholders were summoned to the scene. Several spent cartridges were recovered on the floor. At this stage, no arrests have been made, and the investigation continues,” Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said.
POLICE COMMISSIONER CONDEMNS INCIDENT
Meanwhile, the Acting police commissioner in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, has strongly condemned the church robbery.
Mkhwanazi said it is deeply concerning that criminals now boldly target places of worship, which should be sanctuaries of peace and safety.
