Mystery as Irish fashion designer, 33, found dead on yacht in New York

Mystery surrounds the death of a jet-setting Irish woman found unresponsive on a yacht.

Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra, 33, fell unconcious on a boat named Ripple, docked at the well-heeled Montauk Yacht Club, Long Island in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A 911 call was placed by her partner after he discovered her unconscious on board.

One witness claimed he ran naked screaming ‘that’s my girlfriend’ as he tried to get help from other boaters.

Passers-by attempted CPR before emergency responders arrived Martha died at the scene.

Police have said an autopsy conducted on the Carlow native’s body ‘did not show evidence of violence’.

A Suffolk County police spokesperson said a preliminary examination of Nolan-O’Slattara’s remains was ‘inconclusive’ and that a cause of death is ‘pending further examination.’

‘We dreamed big together, laughed harder than anyone else could understand and built so much from nothing,’ business partner Dylan Grace said on Instagram.

‘I’m truly blessed and grateful to have had you in my life.’

Speaking to the New York Post, a member of the Montauk Yacht Club said that Nolan-O’Slatarra was a well-liked member of the upscale community and regulars at the dock.

‘She was well known in the community. She was very friendly, always smiling,’ the source told the paper.

Martha had been living in Manhattan showing off a luxury lifestyle of private jets and helicopters over the city on TikTok.

She moved to New York from Ireland at the age of 26, to realise her dreams of becoming a fashion designer.

As her career took off, Martha said: I always wanted to start my own company and I always wanted to build a brand. I’ve been saying that since I was 18 or 19.

‘Carlow is a small town. I was the small-town girl who needed to get out to achieve her big dreams… I still have all my Carlow friends. They are still my crew.’

She founded East x East, a resortwear label known for its coastal elegance and had a successful pop-up in Montauk shortly before her death.

Irish police said that the loss of Ms Nolan-O’Slattara was ‘an absolutely devastating blow to the family’.

‘A young, beautiful, very talented, creative woman. Our thoughts and our prayers are with the family, and I can’t comment any further than than that, other than to say it is a devastating loss for the family and for the community in Carlow.’
