He National Agricultural Council (CNA) warned of a critical situation for the mexican countryside and called on the authorities to implement urgent measures that allow producers to face the fall in agricultural pricesunfair competition derived from international subsidies, increased costs and the effects of drought.
In a statement, the organization stressed that these pressures threaten the continuity of the agri-food productionthe economic stability of rural communities and, ultimately, the country’s food sovereignty.
Therefore, it requested greater institutional and financial support to preserve the productive activity and prevent thousands of farmers from abandoning their lands.

“Corn is more than a crop, it is an essential part of our culture and economy,” highlighted the CNA, pointing out the need to support those who plant it to maintain the food supply and the equilibrium in consumer prices.
The organization reiterated its willingness to dialogue and cooperate with the federal government, in search of solutions that guarantee that the field continues to be “source of life and development.”
For its part, the Government maintains the Guarantee Prices program, administered by Mexican Food Security (Segalmex)which offers purchases at preferential prices for small producers, with limits by area and volume. However, producers point out that the support is insufficient given the magnitude of the crisis.
