The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a product recall affecting certain MG3 hatchback vehicles sold in South Africa.
The NCC said it was notified this week by SAIC South Africa, the local arm of MG’s parent company, about a safety-related defect identified in the vehicle.
What is the recall about?
The recall affects a total of 209 Chinese-made MG3 units that have been sold nationally since 30 August 2025.
According to the NCC, the issue relates to the driver’s seat mechanism.
“Inertia forces during a collision may cause the driver’s seat cushion frame to contact the seat adjustment unlocking mechanism,” the Commission said.
“This could result in minor movement of the seat along its rail, increasing the risk of injury.” it added.
Owners of affected MG3 models are advised to take their vehicles to the nearest authorised MG dealership for inspection and repairs.
The NCC confirmed that:
- The inspection will be carried out free of charge
- Any necessary corrective work will also be done at no cost to the consumer
Vehicle owners are also encouraged to act promptly to ensure their cars meet safety standards.
