Netflix fans are counting down to watch Keira Knightley in her next major thriller after the roaring success of Black Doves.

Last year the actress starred as a spy in the critically acclaimed thriller, a role which marked her return to TV after nearly 25 years and earnt her a Golden Globe nomination.

Critics called it ‘compelling’, a ‘must-watch’ and ‘full of twists and turns’.

Nearly a year on from its release, she will next star in the film adaptation of the 2016 novel The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware.

It’s been teased of what unfolds: ‘While on a luxury yacht for a travel assignment, a journalist witnesses a passenger tossed overboard late one night, only to be told that she must have dreamed it, as all passengers are accounted for. Despite not being believed by anyone onboard, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger.’

‘Love that Keira Knightley traded period dramas for the spy/detective genre. First Black Doves and now this!’ user RavenfromTeenTitans286 commented on YouTube.

‘One of my favourite novels ever! Read it four times since 2016…Looking forward to this!’ 5andup shared.

‘I read the book a few years ago and it was really good…had no idea a movie was in the works. Definitely gonna watch this,’ anteiliaboodoo9964 declared.

The two-minute trailer shows Knightley’s character – award-winning journalist Laura Blacklock – welcomed onto a luxury yacht, where she’s greeted by its owner Richard Bullmer – played by Guy Pearce.

Also on board are a raft of the rich and famous – played by actors including Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kaya Scodelario, David Morrissey and Hannah Waddingham.

Although she’s writing about the work undertaken by a charity, her host admits the irony of them spending ‘three days on a luxury yacht’.

However late one night she hears a scuffle take place and a woman scream – before things take a chilling turn and she sees a body in the water.

Raising the alarm immediately, she does her best to help, but her attempts are thwarted when told by the crew the woman she believes she saw fall overboard – who was staying in Cabin 10 – doesn’t exist as ‘everyone is accounted for’.

Determined to uncover the truth despite being blocked at every turn, Laura then puts herself in the firing line, being warned to ‘not piss off’ the powerful people on board.

In one terrifying scene she’s pushed off a balcony, while others show her running down a staircase and being dragged down a hallway screaming.

As she tries to tell another guest, someone is trying to ‘kill and silence’ her.

Ahead of the film’s release, its writer and director Simon Stone said: ‘You never question whether or not she saw what she saw. You agree completely with her. It’s her struggle against the conspiracy.”

Even though the book was released over a decade ago, Ware said she still thought the material was incredibly relevant as ‘the fear of not being believed is perennial, unfortunately’.

‘Cabin 10, at its heart, is about a woman who experiences something wrong, reports it truthfully, and isn’t taken seriously because of who she is,’ she told Netflix’s Tudum.

‘Too many people know what that feels like and I think we want vindication for ourselves as much as Lo.’

The Woman in Cabin 10 is streaming on Netflix from October 10.
