Netflix star and rapper Ghetts charged with fatal hit-and-run of man aged 20

Rapper and Supacell star Ghetts has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a fatal crash.

The musician and Netflix actor, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, allegedly failed to stop after hitting a 20-year-old man in Ilford, in north-east London.

The incident occurred in Redbridge Lane East on Saturday, 18 October, the Met Police said.

The 41-year-old, who goes by the name Ghetts, appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on Monday, the same day the man died in hospital.

The indictment could change from causing serious injury to causing death by dangerous driving at the next hearing.

The rapper, from Woodford Green, was remanded into custody and is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 27 October.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward.

Ghetts, who played Glastonbury last year, has featured alongside Skepta, Stormzy and Ed Sheeran, racking up millions of plays on Spotify.

The rapper toured abroad with Top Boy star and fellow rapper Kano, and was a member of East London British grime group Nasty Crew.

Ghetts took home the Best Male Act at the Mobo Awards in 2021 and has also been nominated for a Mercury Prize.

In 2024, he received the Mobo Pioneer Award in 2024 for his significant contribution to British black culture.

Ghetts also co-starred in the Netflix superhero drama Supacell, in which a group of normal south Londoners develop otherworldly powers overnight, as a result of a shared family history of sickle cell disease.

The show debuted on the streamer in 2024 and saw Ghetts play Craig, or Krazy, who was a former gangster on the show who had the power to absorb the abilities of those around him.
