Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk certainly isn’t resting on his laurels after his K-drama megahit wrapped up its run on Netflix.

He’s already nailed down his next project for the streamer, with elements that the pre-existing death game fans can get in on, plus an additional supernatural element.

Netflix confirmed that production is already underway in South Korea on The Dealer, with Hwang on board to produce and a cast including Jung So-min, Ryoo Seung-bum and Lee Soo-hyuk.

The show has been touted as a ‘high-stakes casino crime drama’ from Hwang’s Firstman Studio company, which was also behind Squid Game.

The crime series follows Geonhwa, a natural casino dealer whose wedding plans go to pieces when she becomes caught up in a housing scam.

Geonhwa re-enters this shadowy underworld with long-hidden powers she’s now prepared to unleash, which give her an edge at the tables – all so she can try and get down the aisle.

The series stars Jung So-min – of Love Reset and Alchemy of Souls – as Geonhwa, in what Netflix has described as a radical departure from her previous roles, playing a woman who has spent years hiding the supernatural powers that can help her along in any game.
