Howard Stern isn’t shying away from recent rumors that he might be done at SiriusXM once his contract runs out at the end of the year.
A report from The U.S. Sun cited sources that said that SiriusXM is going to make Stern an offer, but the satellite radio company doesn’t “intend for him to take it.”
“Sirius and Stern are never going to meet on the money he is going to want. It’s no longer worth the investment,” the source added.
On Wednesday, a new promo for The Howard Stern Show dropped on his channel that directly mentions the rumors about his future with SiriusXM.
The promo says that Stern “will speak” on the rumor when he returns from his summer break on Sept. 2. It also specifically mentions multiple rumors coming from different media outlets.
“The tabloids have spoken. Howard Stern fired, cancelled. Is it really bye bye Booey? Chaos is swirling at the Howard Stern Show,” the promo states.
“Did staffers talk to the press? Are writers withholding their best jokes? Nobody knows what’s going on or who to trust,” the promo adds.
“Now, we can reveal all the questions will be answered. All the truths will be told by the one man truly on the inside. Howard Stern will speak, Tuesday, Sept. 2nd.”

The reference to “writers withholding their best jokes” is from a report by the New York Post that said “some of the show’s writers have been [keeping] their best jokes for themselves” in anticipation of the show’s demise at the end of this year.
While the source of The U.S. Sun report has basically written the obituary for Stern’s future at SiriusXM, a separate report from the Daily Mail said Stern could sign a one- or two-year deal with the company.
Even if Stern doesn’t get renewed, he is not expected to retire and is reportedly eyeing HBO and Netflix as his next possible homes.
This certainly isn’t the first time there has been contract drama with Stern, as he always keeps his listeners on edge when his contract is nearing its end.
Regardless, it looks like we’ll have some more insight into the situation when Stern returns early next month.
