Trigger Point is back for a fiery third series, with all episodes of the hit ITV thriller now available to stream—and we’re pretty certain you’ll want to binge this one.
With British acting royalty Vicky McClure (known for the likes of Line of Duty and This is England) taking the lead once more, ITVX has dropped all six eps for you to sink your teeth into.
Series 3 lands almost two years since our last Trigger Point fix, branded with the ‘hold your breath’ tagline and promising even more explosives than before as bomb disposal expert Lana Washington encounters life-or-death situations.
The first two instalments of the suspenseful crime series—which amassed an astronomical 30,000,000 streams for the second series alone—saw Afghan war veteran Lana (McClure) join the Metropolitan Police’s counterterrorism force.
Her high-risk role saw her face off with mortality on more than one occasion, as attacks were inflicted on minority groups and politicians. At times, Lana had to accept the devastating reality that she couldn’t save everyone.
As the story progressed, however, Lana’s personal life also unravelled, and her tough exterior crumbled when the Expo suffered her own loss, trauma, and PTSD, all of which come to a head in series 3.
What is Trigger Point series 3 about?
The explosion pros are back with a bang as Lana and her colleagues investigate a bomb threat that soon transpires to be even more menacing than they first thought.
Upon learning that someone is after individuals and seeking revenge, a time crunch ensues for the Police Counterterrorism Unit and Bomb Disposal Squad to find those responsible before more lives are lost.
A synopsis for episode 1 of series 3 reads: ‘Explosives officer Lana Washington and her team are called to investigate a suspected bomb in a black cab that has been abandoned on waste ground, but they soon realise they’re at the site of something far more sinister.
‘Working alongside their colleagues in counter-terrorism, the team races to find out what the person behind this unique bombing campaign wants, who they are, and who they might be targeting next.’
Meanwhile, Vicky’s character is still grappling with her own grief, sharing with Radio Times that Lana’s ‘strong’ persona ‘crumbles’ very quickly this time around.
‘We know from the previous two series that she has experienced a lot of loss, which was always going to catch up with her eventually, and this is the start of it.
‘So we are going to be dealing with PTSD, plus she’s struggling with tinnitus, and she is relying on medication to get her through. She’s quite a lonely character at the beginning of the series.’
Who is in the Trigger Point cast?
No stranger to a high-pressure role, Detective Inspector Kate Fleming actress Vicky, 42, has earned high praise for her portrayal of Lana.
Other returning cast members for series 3 include Nabil Elouahabi as Hassan ‘Hass’ Rahim, Eric Shango as Danny, Natalie Simpson as DS Helen Morgan, and Kerry Godliman as Dr Sonya Reeves.
Also back are Maanuv Thiara as DCI Amar Batra, Kevin Eldon as Jeff Washington, and Tamzin Griffin as Val Washington. They’re joined by Lucy Elizabeth Allen as Dr Agnes Raffner, Mark Rowley as Rich Manning, Katie Bernstein as Jenny Manning, and Michael Gould as Edward ‘Ned’ Cole.
As for this series’ antagonist, Jason Flemyng is stepping into those shoes. He’ll portray Steven Wyles, tying the Expos in knots with his vendetta.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter ahead of his Trigger Point debut, the movie star (known for working with Guy Ritchie) teased: ‘Initially, we see the victims, we see the explosions, we see the ramifications of his actions, but we don’t see him. It’s a cat-and-mouse game between me and Vicky, which was fun.’
The 59-year-old added that the plot is akin to ‘David versus Goliath’ as the villain attempts to take matters ‘into his own hands’.
When and where to watch Trigger Point
Series 3 of Trigger Point begins on Sunday, October 26, at 9pm on ITV1.
