New venue name and opening date announced for the former Leadmill building

A new name and opening date have been announced for the venue set to open in the site of the former Leadmill building.

Electric Sheffield, as it will now be known, will open its doors for the first time in February 2026.

It will be operated by Electric Group – who also own Electric Brixton and Electric Bristol.

Their subsidiary group MVL Properties 2017 Ltd purchased the building back in 2017 and had been in a legal dispute with the operators of The Leadmill since serving them with an eviction notice in 2022.

The Leadmill operators were then ordered to leave the building after an eviction ruling was upheld at a Court of Appeal hearing in May this year.

After forty years, the venue closed its doors for the final time at the end of June and will have to fully vacate the building by mid-August.

In previous statements to The Sheffield Tab, Electric Group said the ruling paved the way for a “bright future for the venue”.

They added that they will invest in the new venue so it will “continue to be a cornerstone of the live music scene in Sheffield, supporting artists, fans, and community projects for the next 100 years.”
