Global pop sensation Taylor Swift has become intricately linked to the NFL over the past couple of seasons after she began dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and regularly showed up at his games to support him.
Swift has already attended two Super Bowls in support of Kelce, and there has naturally been a lot of speculation about whether or not she would consider performing at the Super Bowl halftime show.
In a recent interview, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell certainly didn’t rule out that possibility.
Taylor Swift Becomes a Football Fan
Over the past two years, Taylor Swift has gradually become more and more a part of the NFL community, regularly showing up to Kansas City Chiefs games, forming relationships with other wives and girlfriends, and even appearing on the New Heights podcast hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce – one of the most popular sports podcasts on the planet.
On that podcast appearance earlier this month, the pop sensation explained that she didn’t know much about football when she first began dating Kelce.
“On our first date I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl and he looked across the field across the line of scrimmage and saw his brother standing on the other, like five feet in front of him on the field,” Swift said.
“He didn’t even look at me. Like I now know what an insane question that was… I thought everyone was on the field at the same time. I thought it was like Jared Goff is here and Josh Allen is here and they blow a whistle and they go at each other and they’re like, who’s going to win,” she added.
Now, however, she is deeply invested to the point that she follows the NFL Draft and has opinions on who the Chiefs should draft.
“Oh my God I fell in love with it, I became obsessed with it. I became a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, ‘WE DRAFTED XAVIER WORTHY!’ My friends are like, ‘Who bodysnatched you? What do you mean we drafted Xavier Worthy?’” the pop icon said.
Taylor Swift Performing at the Super Bowl?
Given that Taylor Swift is one of the most high-profile artists on the planet and her now fiancé, Travis Kelce, is one of the league’s biggest stars, there has been a lot of speculation that Taylor could serve as the Super Bowl performer this year.
A day before the start of the 2025 NFL season, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell appeared on NBC’s Today to discuss the upcoming season. During his appearance, Goodell was asked about the possibility of a Taylor Swift halftime show for this upcoming Super Bowl.
While Goodell wouldn’t confirm or deny, his response was certainly telling as he made it pretty clear that the league would welcome a performance from the pop sensation.
“We would always love to have Taylor play,” Goodell told Savannah Guthrie. “She is a special, special talent. And obviously, she would be welcome at any time.”
When asked if such a performance was in the works, Goodell played coy, saying, “I can’t tell you anything about that.”
However, he did concede that the possibility of a Taylor Swift performance was “a maybe.”
