In adding new alternate jerseys for eight of its teams this season, the NFL is borrowing a concept from its basketball counterpart.
Over the last several years, the NBA has introduced various alternate jerseys for its teams, such as the City, Icon and Statement editions. On Thursday, the NFL revealed new “Rivalries” uniforms for AFC East and NFC West.
The jerseys will debut during the 2025 season. After previously announcing the “Rivalries” concept earlier this year, the league provided a first glance at the unis this morning.

“Nike has a rich history with football, and we’re excited to partner with the NFL on this new Rivalries program to help grow the sport and expand it for the next generation,” said Ryan Airhart, Nike’s director of NFL apparel design. “Each uniform was designed in collaboration with the club it represents to authentically reflect what makes their team, fans and communities wholly unique.”
What it means
Every NFL team will eventually be included in the “Rivalries” program. The AFC East and NFC West are the initial group to wear them, with other divisions being rolled out over the next three years.
The AFC South and NFC North are next up on 2026, followed by the AFC South and NFC East in 2027 and the AFC North and NFC South in 2028.
“The unveiling of the first eight Rivalries club uniforms and fan gear marks a significant moment for the NFL, Nike and Fanatics, as creativity and innovation merge together to deliver a new take on what it means to be a rival,” said Taryn Hutt, vice president of club marketing at the NFL. “Rivalries will bring fresh energy to the field with each new uniform, while providing a platform to amplify the community and hometown pride that is rooted in each NFL fan.”
When will these jerseys be worn?
Each team will sport their “Rivalries” alternates once this upcoming season, with the dates for wear as follows:
- Arizona Cardinals: Sept. 25 vs. Seattle Seahawks
- Miami Dolphins: Sept. 29 vs. New York Jets
- Buffalo Bills: Oct. 5 vs. New England Patriots
- New England Patriots: Nov. 13 vs. New York Jets
- Los Angeles Rams: Nov. 16 vs. Seattle Seahawks
- New York Jets: Dec. 7 vs. Miami Dolphins
- Seattle Seahawks: Dec. 18 vs. Los Angeles Rams
- San Francisco 49ers: Jan. 4, 2026, vs. Seattle Seahawks
Will these be available for the general public?
“Rivalries” jerseys and fan gear will hit the market on September 10.
