Nicola Peltz’s father Nelson has said he wants his family to ‘stay the hell out of the press’.
Last month the billionaire’s son-in-law Brooklyn Beckham, 26, released a statement on social media in which he weighed in on long-held rumours he’d had a falling out with parents David and Victoria Beckham.
After over a year of speculation a family fallout had happened, Brooklyn hit out at his parents, who he accused of ‘controlling’ him and ‘trying to ruin’ his relationship with wife Nicola, who he married in 2022.
Although the Beckham’s haven’t responded to their son’s brutal statement, Nicola’s dad Nelson has now made it clear he’s had enough.
Appearing on stage during the Wall Street Journal Invest Live event on Tuesday, the businessman was asked about the ongoing family drama.
The subject was broached by a reporter who linked his experience with ‘negotiating high-stakes situations, particularly playing out in public view’ to the public attention his daughter and her husband have recently faced.
‘Has my family been in the press lately? I haven’t noticed that at all,’ he cheekily quipped.
But after being asked if he’s offered his family any advice to his family on navigating ‘such situations’, he replied: ‘I do. My advice is to stay the hell out of the press. How much good did that do?’
He continued: ‘My daughter and the Beckhams are a whole other story. That’s not for coverage here today, but I’ll tell you my daughter’s great, my son-law Brooklyn is great, and I look forward to them having a long, happy marriage together.’
Nelson, 83, who shares eight children including Nicola with wife Claudia Heffner Peltz, is the first immediate family member to directly address the rift between Brooklyn and his parents.
The co-founder of Trian Partners, an alternative investment management fund based in New York, Nelson is thought to have a net worth of approximately $1.7billion (£1.3billion).
Last month it was claimed that Nelson gives his 31-year-old daughter an allowance – reportedly a jaw-dropping $100,000 (£735,000) per month.
Speaking on this week’s episode of The Rest is Entertainment podcast, presenter Marina Hyde claimed: ‘Maybe Nelson Peltz would deny this, but I hear that he said to them that “I give my daughter a million dollar a month allowance”.
‘The one thing they [the Beckhams] didn’t think their children would be doing would be the ones signing the prenuptial, they thought it would be the other way round.’
David and Victoria Beckham are believed to be worth $680million (£493million).
In his statement shared on Instagram on January 19, Brooklyn began by writing: ‘I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.
‘I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.’
He continued: ‘For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.’
Brooklyn went on to claim his family ‘values public promotion and endorsements above all else’.
‘Brand Beckham comes first. Family “love” is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it’s at the expense of our professional obligations.’
He then said that since ‘stepping away’ from his family, he now ‘woke up every morning grateful for the life I chose and have found peace and relief’. ‘My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press or manipulation. All we want [is] peace, privacy, and happiness for us and our future family,’ he added.
Although Brooklyn notably missed several milestone family events last year – including his dad David’s 50th birthday celebrations – he’s shared a series of photos with his father-in-law on social media during that time.
That’s included paying tribute to Nelson on his 83rd birthday last June, with the businessman also acting as the officiant for Brooklyn and Nicola’s vow renewal ceremony in August, which none of the Beckham’s were invited to.
Meanwhile last month Nicola also deleted all traces of her in-laws from social media last month, notably deleting a post which she shared to mark Victoria’s 50th birthday in 2024.
