MÉRIDA.— The “airs of the deceased” are coming. The days leading up to the Days of the Dead, temperatures will drop in Yucatan due to the entry of a new cold front into the region.
The State Coordination of Civil Protection (Procivy) reported that the phenomenon will affect Yucatán during the night of Wednesday the 29th and the first hours of Thursday, October 30, causing a event of “norte” with wind gusts of up to 60 km/h, moderate rains and a notable drop in temperature, especially in the southern part of the state.
The head of Procivy, Hernán Hernández Rodríguez, explained that the frontal system will bring with it a mass of cold air that will cause a decrease in minimum temperatures, which could reach values between 14 and 16°C in the south, while in the rest of the state — including the eastern, central and western municipalities — temperatures higher than 15°C are expected.

In contrast, maximum temperatures will range between 25 and 28°C on the coast, and 30 to 33°C in the interior of the state, which will generate a warm environment during the day, but with cooler nights and early mornings.
The event of “norte” It will also be characterized by sustained winds of 40 to 50 km/h and gusts of up to 60 km/h on the coast and offshore, as well as 20 to 30 km/h with gusts of 40 km/h in the interior of the state.
Hernández Rodríguez indicated that moderate rains are expected, accompanied by electrical activity and gusts of wind, in addition to waves of between 2 and 3 meters offshore and 1 to 2 meters near the coast, conditions that could represent a risk for smaller vessels.

Temperatures drop in Yucatan
The official urged the population, especially fishermen and coastal communities, to remain attentive to the warnings from the maritime and port authorities, and follow the recommendations of Civil Protection to prevent incidents during the passage of the cold front.
The agency recalled that the temperature drop will be most noticeable between 3 and 6 a.m. on Thursday, so it is recommended to shelter children, elderly people and chronically ill people, as well as avoid exposing themselves to sudden changes in temperature.—With information from Procivy.
