Not sure how to file your tax return? SARS has you covered

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced the dates for its Mobile Tax Units and Pop-up branches across the country.

The branches will assist taxpayers with completing and submitting their Income Tax Returns (ITR12) on the MobiApp and eFiling. They will also assist with general enquiries regarding the filing season.

The stations will be rolled out across various provinces over the coming months. In Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, and the North West, they will be available from July. Mpumalanga will have access from July through to September, while the Eastern Cape, Free State, and Northern Cape will see availability from July to October. The Western Cape is scheduled to receive access in September.

WHAT WILL YOU NEED TO HAVE WITH YOU?

According to SARS, if you require assistance from the Mobile Tax Units and Pop-up branches, you must take along your original identity document, IRP5, medical aid certificates, retirement annuity fund certificate, and travel logs. You are also required to carry your smartphone.

TAXPAYERS URGED TO ENSURE THEIR DETAILS ARE CORRECT

SARS requires taxpayers to ensure that their banking details are correct and updated. If you need to change your bank information, you must ensure that your security contact details, your email address and cell phone number, are correct. Your log-in details for your eFiling profile must also be up to date.

To change your security contact details, log into your eFiling profile and click on ‘My Profile’ in the menu. Thereafter, select Profile and Preference Setup, and scroll to the Security Contact Details section. Then, update your email address or cell phone number.

You can also choose your preferred method of communication, either email or SMS, to receive a One-Time Pin (OTP). Once you receive the OTP, enter it on your profile to confirm the changes.
