A Nottingham Trent University graduate has been accused of killing a father of two in Australia.
Alice Kemp allegedly hit 51-year-old Thanh Phan in Perth with an e-scooter whilst reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
The 25-year-old who hails from Worcestershire has since been charged with dangerous driving causing death under the influence of alcohol, and dangerous driving causing bodily harm under the influence of alcohol.
In a previous police statement, a spokesperson said: “On Saturday night, Thanh Phan – a beloved husband, father of two, brother, and dear friend – was struck by an electric scooter and critically injured. Yesterday evening, we received the heartbreaking news that Thanh passed away as a result of his injuries.”
According to The Mirror, Kemp has not yet entered a plea but has been denied bail, with the presiding magistrate saying: “It’s a very difficult decision for the court to make. The temptation might be that [she] won’t return… I can’t manage that risk.”

The graduate appeared at Perth Magistrates’ Court via video link on Tuesday (15th July), and will remain in custody until her next court date on 11th August.
Kemp is facing up to 20 years in jail, if she is found guilty.
Thanh has been described as a “beloved husband, father-of-two, brother, and dear friend”, and his family have called for stricter regulation surrounding e-scooters.
“We also call for a review of the governance and safety regulations surrounding hired e-scooters to help prevent further serious incidents that put lives at risk,” his family said.
His neighbour also described Thanh as a “very gentle man”, telling ABC AU: “He loved having our kids over at his house, he shows them the fish pond that he made and the budgies that they have, he’s just very kind and very gentle man.”
