Five people including the suspect have died after a shooting at an office building in New York.

An off-duty New York City police officer, whose wife is pregnant with their third child, is among the dead after the shooting in a high-rise building in Park Avenue, Manhattan, at about 6.30pm local time on Monday.

It’s been reported the suspect, 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura, killed himself after the shooting.

The gunman walked into the office building armed with a rifle and fired shots in the lobby and an upper floor.

Tamura had a concealed carry permit from Los Angeles and the motive for the shooting is currently unclear.

The office building houses some of the country’s top financial firms and the National Football League.
