Ollie Watkins is keen on a move to Manchester United if the club are unable to sign Benjamin Sesko, according to reports.
United have now tabled a €85 million (£73.8m) bid to sign Sesko from RB Leipzig but the Bundesliga side are also considering a rival offer from Newcastle.
Sesko is yet to make a final decision over his future, although reports in Slovenia last Friday had suggested that the 22-year-old has opted to join Newcastle.
United have alternative options to Sesko, who scored 13 goals in the Bundesliga last season, if he rejects a move to Old Trafford and Watkins is on the club’s shortlist.
An approach was made to Aston Villa last month but United were told that the 29-year-old is not for sale.

Villa also rejected a £60m bid for Watkins from Arsenal in the closing stages of the January transfer window.

According to The Sun, Watkins believes now is the right time to leave, while Villa would consider a £50m offer for their striker, who scored 16 goals in the Premier League last season.
The report adds that United have also shortlisted Samu Aghehowa, who scored 27 goals for Porto last term and came close to joining Chelsea a year ago.
Benfica’s 26-year-old forward, Vangelis Pavlidis, who scored 30 goals last season, is also on United’s radar.
United have also been offered Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic but reports in Italy claim that the Serie A club have been informed that Sesko is United’s priority target.
Ruben Amorim could also have the option of signing Nicolas Jackson as Chelsea are open to selling the 24-year-old for £80m.
