Nam-gyu’s death in Squid Game season three was beyond satisfying, but somehow, people on TikTok clocked a hilarious moment that is essentially Netflix plagiarising itself.
Nam-gyu was introduced in Squid Game season two, quickly becoming the lackey of purple-haired menace Thanos. Nam-gyu was somewhat overshadowed by the jarring presence of Thanos, but after the latter’s brutal death at the end of the season, the third and final instalment was Nam-gyu’s time to shine – he did not disappoint. Pumped full of those handy candies from Thanos’ crucifix necklace, Nam-gyu continued to torment Park Min-su whilst maintaining a ropey alliance with Myung-gi.
When Nam-gyu finally met his maker, at the indirect hands of Min-su no less, I think we all collectively clapped a little. That being said, Nam-gyu has a pretty solid fan club on TikTok, and they noticed a truly hilarious detail about his death in Squid Game.

As a refresher, Nam-gyu died during the jump rope game when Min-su lobbed his necklace onto the platform. The villain managed to get to it, but upon opening up the necklace it became clear that Min-su had stolen the last of the drugs. This shock inevitably led to the rope pushing Nam-gyu off the platform and into the chasm below.
Somehow, TikTok user @q.ch77 noticed a striking similarity between Nam-gyu’s Squid Game death and that of an earlier player. It seems, whether knowingly or not, the producers of Squid Game used the same scream for both Nam-gyu and player 244 from way back in season one. In case you forgot, player 244 was one of the many people who fell to their deaths during the glass bridge game.
Reacting, one person said: “I THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY.”
Someone else noticed how both Nam-gyu and player 006 were killed by scared players: “I just noticed that Min-su is scared but killed Nam-gyu and the one who pushed 244 was scared too, that he killed 244.”

“Bro, everything about season 3 is the same as season one. I have so many reasons why,” another argued.
Someone else wrote: “Who memorised the whole series to know exactly what happens every moment?”
Other people suggested it was South Korea’s version of the Wilhelm scream, a stock sound effect that is widely used across media. Notably, It’s been used in Star Wars, Gremlins, Anchorman, Die Hard with a Vengeance, Lethal Weapon 4, The Fifth Element, and about 50 million other projects.
Now I’m left wondering if the scream was used in other episodes of Squid Game – guess it’s time for a rewatch!
