Anyone who’s seen Squid Game knows its infamous doll. But I never really stopped to think about the voice behind it, mostly because every time I hear it, I feel mildly traumatised. That singsong “Red light… green light” is seared into my brain. It’s the dreaded line that makes you think of terrified contestants frozen in place as the giant doll slowly turns her head. Horrifying.
Honestly, I always assumed the voice was computer-generated or heavily edited. It didn’t seem real, much like the games themselves. But it turns out the voice is very real and belongs to someone who’s already popped up on TV before. Not only that, but she’s actually really good at what she does.
So, who is the voice of the Squid Game’s infamous doll?
The English voice behind the Squid Game doll is Reagan To, a 13-year-old actress who’s been part of the show since the very first season dropped in 2021. She’s been saying “Red light, green light” since she was around nine years old. Iconic behaviour, honestly.
She’s voiced the doll in all three seasons of the Netflix hit, and recently shared a video on Facebook showing clips from each year in the recording booth. Alongside it, she wrote: “Thank you Squid Game for having me since 2021. Season one, two, and three – the voice of the Squid Game doll.” Very casual, very humble queen energy.
Her delivery is so distinctive and eerie that it’s hard to believe it’s coming from a real person, especially one so young. But that’s part of what makes it work so well.
She was also the voice of the Hide and Seek song

Season three introduced a new earworm: The Hide and Seek game, featuring a haunting little tune that’s equally unsettling. This time, Reagan sings: “Hide hide, it’s time to play, don’t let your hair give you away.”
On Instagram, Reagan shared that it took two full hours to get the song just right. She wrote over the video: “Fun fact: Recorded for two hours for the hide and seek song.” And in the caption, she added: “Another Squid Game haunted song gets stuck in my head, sorry.” Fair enough, it’s stuck in everyone else’s heads too.
She was Sheldon’s tutor in Young Sheldon

If her face looks familiar, it might be from another well-known show. Reagan played Mei-Tung in Young Sheldon, a whip-smart student who ends up tutoring Sheldon himself.
In one of her most memorable scenes, she tells him, “Pain is the best teacher,” while sharply tapping his knuckles with a pencil when he answers a question incorrectly.
On Instagram, someone asked her, “Are you that girl from Young Sheldon?” She confirmed it with a simple, “Yes!”
Reagan has also appeared in Jane the Virgin and voiced Big Girl Ember in Pixar’s Elemental.
