Why We Love This Deal
The Merrell Labor Day sale is on, and it’s the biggest sale the store has had since its annual Merrell May event. That makes this the last great time to browse Merrell’s sporty sneakers, durable work boots, and comfy hiking shoes until we hit the late November sales season. It also marks an absolutely fantastic time to buy the brand’s most unique hiking shoes, while they’re $45 off.
The Merrell Chameleon 8 Stretch has had its price cut down to just $105, nearly a third off its usual $150. Nearly every size is available (in at least one colorway) at this time, but as the holiday weekend unfolds, more sizes and color combinations will inevitably sell out. If the one you need does indeed sell out, it’s worth checking over at REI and Backcountry, where some sizes are still available.

The Chameleon 8 Stretch is the second-highest rated men’s hiking shoe featured in the sale, right after the Ontario Mid Waterproof. Though the only non-waterproof hiking shoe in the top three, the Chameleon 8 Stretch is also the most wallet-friendly. Additionally, they are unique in that they have a high-arching outsole, allowing for a more natural stepping pattern as opposed to rounded or flat-bottomed shoes.
However, what really makes these hikers special is their easy slip-on entry. Featuring a locking elastic cord, the Chameleon 8 Stretch is able to be secured just as well as fully tying hiking shoes, but with only a fraction of the hassle.
Of course, it’s not all niche: The bellows tongue, for instance, is a mainstay of Merrell’s hiking shoes. This type of tongue is incorporated into the opening of the shoe and keeps out debris that tends to kick up and deposit directly into the other shoe. They also feature Merrell’s Air Cushion heel for comfy landings, the common Vibram outsole, and Merrell’s removable Kinetic Fit Base footbed.

What Shoppers Are Saying
The popularity of the Chameleon cannot be overstated. What remains is a very classic tan/khaki color that will go well with grey hiking pants, as well as a black that should hide scuffs over the long run. Hikers have put this to the test and agree: “These shoes are comfortable, stable, supportive, and fashionable.”
Another commented that they replaced their older Moabs with the Chameleon 8 Stretch. In addition to loving the shoe’s light weight (15.34 ounces per shoe), they confirmed that “the no-tie laces are awesome.” It’s something you have to try yourself to get the feel of, but it really works.
The Merrell Chameleon 8 Stretch is marked down to $105 while this sale is live. Don’t wait until after Labor Day on Sept. 1 to shop this deal, because it’ll likely be gone.
