One person has died following a plane crash in Colorado, US. Two small planes collided mid-air whilst landing, and caught fire at the Fort Morgan Municipal Airport.
Three people were also injured in the crash, that took place on Sunday. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 were both approaching the airport to land, when they struck each other mid-air. Authorities received a report of the crash at around 10:44am local time. Each plane was carrying two people at the time.
The two passengers of the Cessna plane sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. One occupant of the second plane was taken to a local hospital. The person who passed away had been flying in the second plane, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fox News shared footage from the crash site, showing the extent of the shocking damage to the planes. The two planes can be seen as having been completely destroyed by the fire, with debris spread all around. According to some reports, bystanders who saw what happened ran to help, with some even jumping into the blaze in an attempt to save those involved.
The local sheriff’s office said in a statement: “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim in this tragic event. We would like to express our gratitude to all the agencies that helped with this situation. Additionally, we want to thank the citizens who assisted in trying to extinguish the fire until the fire department and first responders arrived on the scene.”
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating the cause of the crash. Full details of what happened have not yet been revealed.
