One thousand participants of different ages gathered at the American facilities to run 2, 5 or 10 kilometers as part of an event full of energy and fun for the entire community.
The 5K and 10K races started at 6:30 in the morning, while the 2K started at 8:00. When the competitions concluded, attendees chatted at the school facilities thanks to the activities prepared by the sponsors.
Among the runners were people from more than 20 countries who, along with the locals, ran the tree-lined route of Colonia Providencia that was chosen by the organizers for this event.
Alejandro Garza, director of Physical Education and Sports at American, shared that the Eco Race is a party that brings together athletes of all types, from experts to novices, among whom there are parents, teachers, students, alumni and administrative staff.
The first three places in each category received trophies, but there were medals for all participants. Among the prizes were gym memberships, restaurant vouchers and boxes of goodies.
For 11 years, the Department of Physical Education and Sports at the American School has organized the Eco Race as part of its mission to educate students who are balanced in physical, social and emotional issues, and who at the same time are committed to peace, diversity and environmental issues.
