Opponents accuse Sheinbaum of asking for votes for help

Sheinbaum clarified that the video where he supposedly asked for the vote in exchange for help against the floods was taken out of context; He assured that this is a “very petty” tactic by his opponents.

Mexico City, October 20 (However).– The President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo He said this Monday that it is false video that went viral this weekend where supposedly, according to his critics and opponents, he asked for the vote in exchange for help reaching the victims for the severe floods in the center of the country. The Mexican president assured that it was taken out of context, since she was talking about how it is now the people who elect their local councilors and it is no longer a decision that comes from the National Palace.

“There in Tianguistengowe were passing by with the trucks and a man shouted: ‘They are not doing anything.’ And I said: ‘Stand to listen to the Lord.’ And I asked him why he said we are not doing anything. And he said: ‘The Municipal President is not doing anything. Look carefully at which municipal presidents they put.’ More words, less words,” he explained in his morning press conference.

“And I told him: ‘Yes, but you also pay attention to who you vote for’. Just so you know, in Tianguistengo a person nominated by Morena governs. It has nothing to do with how you think we are promoting the vote, if we are not equal. I told him: ‘Whoever decides which Municipal President is elected is the people’. Because there is this idea from before, that the President appointed the municipal presidents,” he stressed Sheinbaum Pardo.

A part of the opposition and social media users had questioned the President this weekend by showing only a part of the video, where she only says: “Well, you too when you vote.” They stated that he was asking for a vote for Morena, his party, so that help would arrive.

“The conditioning of the vote is incredible,” PRI Deputy Rubén Moreira said on his networks. Others questioned: “Have you seen more blatant conditioning? In a permanent campaign.” But Sheinbaum clarified:

“So that was the dialogue at that moment. The man said: ‘Thank you very much’. We agreed on what we were proposing. They take the little bit out of context [del video] and they say that we are promoting the vote with help: nothing to see,” said the Head of the Executive Branch.

At the same time, he described this objective of pointing out or distorting information as “very petty, very mean.”

Critics take Sheinbaum videos out of context during tragedy

This is not the first time that his opponents and critics have used videos taken out of context to question Sheinbaum’s work during the tragedy. Last week, the President faced direct complaints from residents demanding urgent help. Videos circulating on social networks show moments of tension, so the federal president explained what happened.

The doctor specified that in the video where a young student questions her, she did not try to silence him, but rather ask him for space to respond with verified information.

“First I want to clarify: if you see the entire video that circulated yesterday on social networks, you will notice that the young man who questioned me was talking about missing people. I asked him to listen to me, because what I told him was: ‘We are not going to hide anything at all. Let me have all the information and we are going to make it known.’ Even when we were arriving, people asked us to stop, and we stopped right in that area,” he explained from the National Palace.

Regarding the mockery and criticism of businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego and the leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, Claudia Sheinbaum pointed out that these actions are unfounded and promised that they will not distract the efforts of her Administration.

“I don’t think the second thing is worth it. I don’t even know how to rate it. [En] Mexico, the vast majority of people, 99 percent, have something very special: generosity. Yesterday, in the face of tragedy, people offered me food so I could eat. Obviously I told them: ‘No, thank you very much.’ And we distributed it again. Right there, in Poza Rica, people handed me a bag of tacos. Imagine the generosity of the people; The more humble, the more it is noticeable. Generosity takes your breath away, brings out tears. “That is the people of Mexico,” he expressed.

President Sheinbaum added that the right-wing attacks are malicious and seek to distract, but that the priority remains attention to the affected population: “And when you see these people, people, with this evil… Criticism is always valid, right? But these are mockery, they are cruelty, they are lies. Let’s see if they pay taxes [Ricardo Salinas Pliego] and with that you can help more people. But the truth is, deep down, it’s a lot of malice.”

The death toll from the emergency in five states of the country due to the intense rains last weekend rose to 76, according to the latest report from federal authorities. The atypical rainfall caused flooding and landslides in 108 municipalities of Veracruz, Hidalgo, Puebla, San Luis Potosí and Querétaro.

According to the data, four more people died compared to the figure reported a day before, two of them in Veracruz, which now has 34 deaths; one more in Hidalgo, which accumulates 22 deaths; and another in Puebla, bringing this entity to 19 fatalities. Querétaro has one death and San Luis Potosí (SLP) has no deaths so far.

Regarding people reported missing, the number dropped from 29 to 20 in Hidalgo. The data remained the same in Veracruz, which reports 14. Puebla, for its part, has five registered disappearances. There are no reports in Querétaro or San Luis Potosí. In total, 39 people are missing.
