Orcas around the world continue to display behavior that’s leaving just about everyone befuddled.
The latest comes in yet another orca pod attacking a luxury yacht off the coast of Portugal near Fonte da Telha beach.
In a video posted by Oceanic Lounge, a pod of orcas dangerously attacks the yacht carrying five passengers. The yacht belonged to the Nautic Squad Club.
The passengers on board can be seen frantically walking the yacht to get a better look at the danger below them. Passengers soon realize something terribly is unfolding, as an orca repeatedly strikes the hull of the vessel.
You can see the boat eventually tilt to its side before it slowly sinks. According to multiple reports, tourists on nearby vessels rescued the five people on board, and four passengers on a separate yacht also had to be rescued after the same pod of orcas attacked that boat.
Back in May, a family sailing on a luxury yacht in the Mediterranean Sea experienced a similar ordeal when an orca swimming underneath later started banging the side of the vessel. That incident was also captured on video.

“Yes, she’s bumping us,” the woman filming the incident said. “She’s trying to hit us on the side.”
That the latest attack came off the coast of Portugal shouldn’t be all that surprising.
A wildlife biologist penned an essay in July 2024 for Outside magazine detailing how ” an endangered subpopulation of orcas has developed the unfortunate habit of ramming into sailboats” along the Iberian Peninsula, where the North Atlantic collides with the rugged coastlines of Spain and Portugal before pinching into the Mediterranean Sea.
