A viral video shows Oregon’s famous Duck mascot suffering a wardrobe malfunction ahead of the Aug. 30 game against Montana State.
The video, which provoked much mockery on social media, showed the mascot’s duck head on the ground, as the man inside the costume ran down the field.
It’s the second wardrobe mishap to strike the mascot in two years.
People Mocked the Oregon Duck Mascot on Social Media
The duck video sparked jokes on social media. “The guy picking up the head was flying,” noted one X user. “Ran faster than Richard Kimble in ‘The Fugitive,'” joked another person.

The Oregon Duck lost its head after stumbling, “then turned tail and sprinted back into the tunnel,” Oregon Live reported, noting that a “support staffer” grabbed the head.
Although the viral videos stop with the duck running into the stadium, according to Oregon Live, the mascot returned and rode a motorcycle around the stadium.
The Oregon Duck is “one of the most iconic college mascots in the world,” according to Autzen Zoo. It used to be known as “Puddles,” but it’s now called simply “The Duck.”
An Earlier Video Showed the Duck Mascot’s Head Fall Off While It Was Trolling Deion Sanders
A 2023 video showed the mascot sauntering to the sidelines, and hitting a box with a stick. The mascot’s large duck head, complete with cowboy hat and sunglasses, then fell off, exposing the man underneath, who promptly turned around and ran inside the stadium.
Fans referred to that mishap as karmic because, according to Sports Illustrated, the Duck was mocking coach and NFL great Deion Sanders with its wardrobe choice.
