Orlando Bloom Explains How a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Revival Could Work

Whether or not Pirates of the Caribbean will return is up in the air, with Orlando Bloom speaking up about how there are only two things he needs to see for it to succeed in the current Hollywood landscape.

“Everything is in the writing, right? Everything is on the page, and I think there’s definitely, I’m sure there’s a way to create something,” he said at the 2025 Fan Expo in Chicago, according to Entertainment Weekly

“I would personally love to see everybody back. I think the way to win on that one is to get everybody back. If they can, and if everybody wanted to go back,” he added as the must that has to happen for the revival.

When looking back at the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, he commented, “My thing is, if the script was great and — ideally it was everybody — it’d be kind of like in for a penny, in for a pound, you know.”

Bringing back the franchise has led to a few discussions on what could be done. There are talks of a reboot movie or a spinoff starring Margot Robbie, penned by Christina Hodson.

“What they’re thinking…is how to do it. Do you bring in a female leading character that replicates Jack in some way? I don’t know. The jury is out on how to do it again, but if [the script] was great,” commented Bloom on his desire to return.

A Pirates of the Caribbean continuation has also been discussed with Johnny Depp reprising his role as Jack Sparrow. The actor has previously commented on his openness to return to the franchise if the script is strong enough.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer echoed Bloom’s remarks of a cast reunion, including Depp, by saying, “If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it. It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know.”

But a full cast reunion, as Bloom describes, may not be possible.

Not only did Depp’s legal battles with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, paint him in a bad light, but Keira Knightley has been less enthusiastic to return. She cited the emotional toll and logistical demands of the franchise.
