Orlando Pirates have officially unveiled Sipho Mbule as their first signing for the 2025/2026 season, setting the tone for an ambitious campaign under newly appointed head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.
The 27-year-old midfielder joins the Soweto giants as a free agent after Mamelodi Sundowns opted not to extend his contract. Mbule spent the previous season on loan at Sekhukhune United, where he impressed with consistent performances.
“Orlando Pirates is pleased to welcome Sipho Mbule to the club,” the Buccaneers announced on Tuesday.
This bold move highlights the club’s determination to bolster their squad ahead of domestic and continental challenges.
Ouaddou era begins and takes charge
Just a day before confirming Mbule’s arrival, Orlando Pirates announced the appointment of Abdeslam Ouaddou as the club’s new head coach. He replaces Jose Riveiro, who departed to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly following a trophy-laden three-year stint in South Africa.
Ouaddou brings a wealth of international experience, having earned 68 caps for Morocco and coached across Europe and Africa. His arrival signals a new era focused on progressive football and elite performance.
The 46-year-old tactician is expected to land in South Africa before the week’s end. He will work alongside an experienced technical team comprising Mandla Ncikazi, Rayaan Jacobs, Helmi Gueldich, and Tyron Damons.
Pirates pre-season tour of Spain
The tour will include high-profile friendlies against European clubs such as Bolton Wanderers (England), Pafos FC (Cyprus), Las Palmas (Spain), and Granada (Spain), offering a crucial opportunity to test the squad against international competition.
With Sipho Mbule’s arrival and a new head coach at the helm, Orlando Pirates are sending a strong message, they’re gearing up for a serious title charge, both at home and on the continent.
