Orlando Pirates predicted XI that can beat Sundowns in the MTN8

Orlando Pirates face their toughest test of the season as they take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-finals.

The two giants play each other in the semi-finals of the MTN8 first leg at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Last season, the two teams played twice in the league and claimed a win each, with eight goals being scored.

This weekend, fans are expecting another breathtaking encounter at the Orlando Stadium. The first leg will give football fans an indication on how far the teams are from each other this season.

How can Orlando Pirates beat Sundowns?

Sipho Chaine (GK)

Chaine has been the number one keeper since 2023 and his place in the team is not being threatened. He is expected to start most matches for Pirates this season.

Deano van Rooyen (RB)

The ex-Stellenbosch right-back has not seen much game time under Ouaddou, but his experience and work rate can come in handy on Saturday.

Nkosinathi Sibisi (CB)

Sibisi missed Tuesday’s match against Marumo Gallants but is expected to return for the Downs match. His leadership was missed midweek and him returning to the team will stabilise the defence.

Mbekezile Mbokazi (CB)

The 19-year-old centre-back has made some mistakes in two of the last matches for Orlando Pirates. Against Sundowns, the youngster needs to be solid and help keep a clean sheet.

Deon Hotto (LB)

The Sea Robbers needed to find a quality left-back but now have to convert Hotto into a defender. Rian Hanamub and Fawaaz Basadien were available at some point; however, the club chose to bring the likes of Nkosikhona Ndaba.

Makhehlene Makhaula (DM)

The veteran midfielder has been an engine in the Bucs midfield for Jose Riveiro over the years. His presence is missed and Ouaddou should look at bringing him back in the starting eleven.

Sipho Mbule (CM)

Mbule needs time to find his feet, but so far so good. His combination with Makhaula and Tito can help Pirates this season if the trio are allowed to play together.

Patrick Maswanganyi (AM)

Tito looked like he wanted to play against Gallants. If he can rediscover his 2023/24 form, then Orlando Pirates will win big games especially against the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns. An in-form Tito is bad news for PSL teams.

Relebohile Mofokeng (LW)

Mofokeng needs to start on the left, even if it means benching Oswin Appollis. The 20-year-old needs to play alongside the likes of Tito and Hotto, instead of the new players.

Tshepang Moremi (RW)

Moremi has not shown his true quality but with time, he will get goals and create chances. He has had his moments in the few games he played and perhaps the Sundowns match is what he needs to announce himself to the Bucs faithful.

Tshegofatso Mabasa (ST)

Mabasa is still the best Orlando Pirates striker and should be a starter. Playing the likes of Radiopane and Yanela Mbuthuma against Sundowns might be suicidal.
