Orlando Pirates are on the verge of sending out winger Monnapule Saleng on loan to newly promoted Orbit College, with advanced talks currently underway. The Buccaneers are keen to give the struggling star a fresh opportunity after a frustrating season at Mayfair.
Sources close to the deal confirmed, “Talks are progressing well between Pirates and Orbit College,” suggesting the move could materialise before the new campaign kicks off.
Frozen out at Pirates: What went wrong?
Saleng endured a nightmare 2024/2025 season, managing just five appearances, with his final outing coming against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stage last December. His sudden disappearance from the matchday squads sparked wild rumours that Pirates only fielded him in that game to attract interest from the North African giants.
However, links with Al Ahly never materialised, and the club has remained silent on the winger’s prolonged absence. Despite his proven talent, Saleng became a ghost at Pirates, leaving fans and pundits alike questioning the club’s direction.
Return to Orbit College on the horizon
Hailing from Bloemhof in the North West, Saleng’s career began with Orbit College before he rose through the ranks. He later joined Free State Stars, where he flourished and finished as the club’s top scorer before Orlando Pirates snapped him up four years ago.
Now, insiders believe Saleng is closing in on a reunion with his roots.
SABC Sport reports that Pirates are finalising a loan move to Orbit College, who were recently promoted to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after topping the National First Division round-robin under coach Pogiso Makhoye. The move could offer Saleng the perfect platform to regain form and confidence.
Orbit’s rise adds to the appeal
Orbit’s promotion story has made headlines. They outclassed Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars to seal promotion as the second NFD side alongside Durban City, who won the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Pirates yet to close the deal
While the deal hasn’t been signed yet, all signs point to a loan agreement being imminent. Pirates appear ready to offer Saleng a lifeline, just as he did for them during Jose Riveiro’s first season, where he became a standout performer after returning from loan at Moroka Swallows.
Will Saleng move away from Orlando Pirates to Orbit?
