The Pirates squad is blessed with players at the sharp end and in both central defence and midfield. However, they lack depth in the full-back areas. Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako have been released, while they’ve secured the signing of versatile Baroka star Tshepho Mashiloane. He should challenge both Deano van Rooyen and Deon Hotto for a place.

Nemtajela is an exciting midfield general
It’s unlikely that wholesale changes will be made to a settled, predominantly young squad. However, there are a couple of key areas needing improvement. 24-year-old Marumo Gallants midfield general Masindi Nemtajela is seen as a natural successor to the impressive but ageing Makhehlene Makhaula. The all-action schemer claimed a goal, two assists and four yellow cards in 17 league outings last term.
