The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuchdefended before the Senate the national security strategy promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaumand assured that the results of his first year in office demonstrate concrete progress in the pacification of the country.
“I come to report with concrete data the actions carried out and the results achieved to guarantee peace, justice and tranquility in the country with the certainty that the security strategy is moving on the right path,” said Harfuch during his speech in the gloss of the first Government report.
The official recalled that the security policy is based on four axes: attention to the causes of violence, consolidation of the National Guard, strengthening of intelligence and investigation, and coordination with states and municipalities.
“President Claudia Sheinbaum heads and directs the security cabinet every day. In these daily meetings, trends in violence are monitored and strategic actions are defined. Coordination and teamwork are essential. Without it there are no lasting results,” he stressed.
Harfuch explained that the actions include social prevention programs, such as the “Territories of Peace” strategy, implemented in 13 municipalities, as well as the strengthening of the capabilities of the National Guard and the creation of specialized investigation units.
“The intelligence of the Mexican State is strengthened and modernized, prioritizing the identification and arrest of generators of violence linked to criminal organizations with an operational efficiency 240% higher than last year,” he assured.
Among the most relevant results cited by the secretary is the arrest of 35,817 people for high-impact crimes, the seizure of 18,270 firearms and 288 tons of drugs, including nearly 4 million fentanyl pills, as well as the destruction of 1,597 methamphetamine laboratories in 22 states of the country.
Besides, A 46% reduction in the daily average of crimes was reported since January 2018, with decreases of up to 62% in homicides in some states.
He emphasized international coordination and with the United States (US) to combat drug and weapons trafficking, as well as the importance of a safe prison system and social reintegration policies.
“The peace of the nation is a responsibility of the State and we are going to fulfill it. Only with unity, perseverance and determination will we consolidate the transformation of public security and guarantee with actions the tranquility and lasting peace that the people of Mexico demand,” García Harfuch concluded.

Criminal cell arrested after operation in Culiacán
Through social networks, the Ministry of Public and Citizen Security detailed that were arrested in Culiacan, Sinaloasix members of a criminal cell linked to homicides, drug trafficking, illegal deprivation of liberty and armed attacks.
The agency detailed that among those detained are José Manuel “N”, known as “Mono Canelo”, as well as Juan Carlos “N”, alias “Chango”, both generators of violence, detained in December and released by a judge.
He added that the leader of the cell, identified as Luis Ezequiel “N”, alias “El Morral”, died when attacking the authority during the actions.

Fall related to murder of lemon leader
The head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuchreported that a second person was arrested in connection with the murder of Bernardo Bravo, a lemon leader from Apatzingan, Michoacan.
During his report in the Senate, he noted that “I want to take the opportunity to mention that a few moments ago, the authorities of Michoacán, in coordination with the Security Cabinet, had another arrest of this unfortunate homicide and the operations will continue.” […] “The operations will increase until all those responsible for this unfortunate homicide and many others in this region are arrested.”
Bernardo Bravo Manríquez defined himself as an entrepreneur and “proudly a lemon tree.” He was born in Apatzingán, Michoacán, son of a family of citrus farmers.
According to his profile on social networks, he studied at the Free Faculty of Law of Monterrey.
He also points out that he served as president of the Association of Citrus Growers of the Apatzingán Valley and president of the National Committee of the Mexican Limon Product System AC.
On several occasions he raised his voice against the extortion suffered by the lemon trees of Apatzingán by the armed group.
