Drug mule couple who claimed they were on ‘honeymoon’ caught smuggling £99k worth of cannabis at UK airport
A COUPLE who claimed they were on their honeymoon were caught smuggling £99,000 worth of cannabis at a UK airport.
Jeng Chow, 30, and Ley Wat, 25,were recruited as mules to carry the drugs for just £800 each in cash.
The engaged pair had travelled from their native Malaysia with 28 vacuum-packed bags of cannabis stuffed in their cases.
But they were stopped at Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport by Border Force officials.
Chow and Wat shared a hug and kiss in the dock as they were jailed for a year and three months at Manchester Crown Court.
They pleaded guilty to one count of being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on the importation of a class B drug.
Prosecutors said Wat was in debt when he and Chow were recruited by smugglers to bring the drugs to the UK.
The couple were provided with the cannabis and promised cash following a successful handover.
They left Malaysia on April 16 and flew via Qatar before landing at Manchester.
After they were caught with the drugs, Chow and Wat claimed they had travelled to the UK for their honeymoon.
The court heard the drugs were worth £99,000 at wholesale prices but the street value would have been “much higher”.
When she was interviewed by police, Wat told officers she believed her suitcase contained alcohol.
She also revealed she and Chow were in contact with a third party and that someone was going to pick up the drugs at the airport in exchange for money.
The couple will be deported back to Malaysia once their sentences have been carried out.
Their sentencing comes amid a spate of similar drug mule cases – with around 13 Brits currently kept in hellhole jails abroad.
Three Brits are facing the death penalty in Bali accused of trafficking more than £300,000 worth of cocaine onto the island.
A Brit couple were charged with smuggling £1million of cannabis from Thailand a mere few days ago.
While several young women have been arrested trying to smuggle cannabis from Thailand.

Mobile users warned urgent ‘mandatory’ update affects their battery after reports of phones catching FIRE
A “MANDATORY” update is going out to some mobiles after reports of fires breaking out when charging.
While the update is important for safety, affected users will notice a knock to their battery’s capacity as a result.

Google has confirmed to The Sun that a “subset” of Pixel 6a devices will receive it “to reduce the risk of potential battery overheating”.
It comes as a number of unverified reports online that the phone caught fire when on charge.
One user shared pictures of his destroyed Pixel 6a which they say began to “shoot out hot gas” in the middle of the night as it was on charge.
“Luckily, I was able to smother the fire, then throw the still-smoking phone into the toilet before the fire spread,” Reddit user zaliver claimed.
“My wife and I are pretty shook up about it.”
A small number of other users have reported similar issues.
“The update will enable battery management features that will reduce capacity and charging performance after the battery reaches 400 charge cycles,” Google said.
“We’ll contact impacted customers next month, with all the information they need to address the issue.”
It comes only a few months after another update impacted the batteries on the Pixel 4A, though this incident affected all models and wasn’t a result of safety concerns.
Owners were offered a free replacement battery to solve the problem.
Must-know Android tips to boost your phone

I’m a lottery expert – my brilliant tips to bag ENTIRE £208m EuroMillions jackpot… and the 3 ‘unlucky’ numbers to avoid
FROM buying a Ferrari to holidaying in the Seychelles, we’ve all got a plan for how to splash the cash if we win the EuroMillions.
Players have a chance of scooping the record-breaking jackpot of £208million this Friday – and now, top lottery expert Simon Horne exclusively tells Sun readers how to boost your chances of bagging the whole lot.

If a UK player takes home the money, it will be the largest prize ever won in this country, making the lucky winner instantly richer than the likes of Adele, Dua Lipa and Harry Kane.
From picking your lucky numbers to whether you should join a syndicate, there’s a heap of practical ways to boost your chances of getting richer overnight.
Of course, the only real way of increasing your chances of winning is to buy more tickets.
Make sure you gamble responsibly. Only gamble with money you can afford to lose, and set a money limit before playing.
If you need advice, visit gamcare.org.uk or GambleAware.org.
Is a syndicate worth it?
A lottery syndicate is when a group of people put money into a pot for lottery tickets.
There will be one person in charge – the syndicate manager – who will buy tickets and share out any winnings out among the group.
Playing as part of a group could be a good way of boosting your chances of winning, as Simon, from The National Lottery operator Allwyn UK, explains.
“If you join a syndicate of 10 people, then there’s 10 tickets and 10 chances of winning, so there’s clearly a greater chance of winning compared to if you just bought your own ticket,” he said.
The syndicate manager will need to register the group and list themselves as the person in charge with The National Lottery.
Make sure to write all the terms and conditions of the agreement down, and get each person to sign it, said Simon.
“If there’s any confusion or complications down the line, then you can refer back to the agreement and then everyone knows where they stand,” he said.
The big downside to consider being part of a syndicate is that you’ll need to equally split the pot between each person.
So, if you were part of a syndicate of four people, splitting the £208million jackpot four ways would leave you with £52million – although that’s still big winnings to walk away with.
Pick YOUR lucky numbers

You might think that picking up the most common numbers may mean you are more likely to win.
The number 20 has been drawn the most, according to Lottery.co.uk, which tracks lottery results.
That’s followed by the number 21, which has been drawn 108 times, then 23 (105 times), 42 (104 times) then 29 (103 times).
The most common Lucky Stars are 3, which has been drawn 178, and 2, which has been drawn 174 times.
But you’re better off picking whichever numbers you feel are best, said Simon.
That’s because, statistically, each number has an equal chance of being drawn.
Many people pick their birthday numbers because they think they are lucky.
“We all have lucky numbers – I know plenty of players who lean on lucky numbers, which could be phone numbers or numbers passed down from family members,” said Simon.
“Every set of numbers has the same chance of coming out.
“The best strategy to play is the one that you think will bring you luck.”
Monitor your numbers
Not sure your lucky numbers are working for you?
You could keep an eye on how often your lucky numbers are being drawn, and if they’re not coming up as often as you would like, you can try a different tact.
The National Lottery app stores all your tickets from draws you have entered.
The app is free to download from either the App Store on iPhone, or the Google Play store on Android devices.
That means you can go back in and check your most profitable numbers.
Should you buy more tickets?
YOU'VE got to be in it to win it.
Every time you buy a ticket the odds of winning increase.
But WARNING – only spend what you can afford. At the end of the day, it’s down to luck.
This is why some people prefer to be part of a syndicate, where multiple tickets are bought.
While this means you’ll have to share the pot, the odds become more favourable each ticket you buy.
You could make a spreadsheet of how often your lucky numbers are being drawn, and every three months, see whether it’s worth keeping them, or ditching them for alternatives.
According to Lottery.co.uk, the unluckiest Euromillions numbers are 22, which has been drawn 65 times, followed by 40 (73 times) and 18.
The National Lottery app is free to download from either the App Store or Google Play.
Timing matters
Timing matters when it comes to buying your ticket, said Simon.
If you leave it to the last minute, then there’s a risk that you run out of time to buy your ticket.
You need to buy your ticket before 7:30pm on Friday – otherwise you’ll miss out.
“My main advice is not to leave it too late – don’t rush into the newsagents or load up your app at 7:25pm,” he said.
“You might not be able to upload money onto your online account, or buy your ticket, in time and you could miss the draw.”

Shock moment Love Islanders get surprise news AFTER recoupling – and fans think they’ve ‘worked out’ what it is
LOVE Islanders get surprising news after tonight’s recoupling – and fans think they’ve ‘worked out’ what it is.
The 12th series continues to show no mercy in week one with another Islander dumped just days after launch night.

Manchester beauty Sophie Lee was the first contestant to be sent packing after she became the victim of an opening twist.
Shakira saved herself by picking a boy she wanted to couple with.
By choosing footballer Harry Cooksley, she eliminated Sophie.
This time around, it’s a boy who bites the dust after one is left single in a shock recoupling.
It follows the arrival of bombshells Shea Mannings and Remell Mullins, both of which got to pick first in the villa reshuffle.
This leaves the boys wondering if they’ve done enough to be chosen.
Toni says: “Tables have turned!”
They haven’t got long to wait. That evening Tommy gets a text:
Can all Islanders gather around the Firepit immediately, #DecisionTime.
As the boys line up, the girls get ready to make their choices and their first speeches at the Firepit.
But will they stay coupled up with their current partners or have the events of the past few days been enough to make them take action?
And that’s not all for this re-coupling as a surprise extra text arrives that none of the Islanders had seen coming.
Fans flocked to Reddit to share their opinions and one said: “I wonder what the text is that no one saw coming.
“I think it’s that the bombshells pick first as i doubt they would dump them after 24 hours Or new bombshell.”
Love Island 2025 - current couples

LOVE Island's 2025 cast have already undergone a shake-up, here are the latest couples:
- Sophie Lee has been given the boot
- Shakira Khan, 22, chose her partner Harry Cooksley, 30, to re-couple up with
- Now the couples are – Toni and Ben
- Meg and Dejon
- Shakira and Harry
- Helena and Conor
- Alima and Blu
- Megan and Tommy.
Another suggested: “I think Toni might choose Conor. Then maybe a new bombshell comes in and has to choose between Ben and Blu to even out the numbers.”
While a third said: “After reading the press release I think Shakira picks Ben and Toni picks Conor. Blu and Shea are left.
“Either they send in a bombshell to pick between them or the group gets to decide which one to dump.”
But another had a different opinion and suggested: “I think they are gonna go on a date with a bombshell and she is gonna choose the one she wants.”
Meanwhile, Love Island star Shakira’s family have slammed a show rival for catty comments saying ‘what is her problem?’
And chaos reigns in the villa as Harry finds out about Shakira’s Hideaway kiss and Shea tries to split the show’s most solid couple.
Plus viewers have ranted “get him out”, after they claimed one of the boys is showing “scary red flag behaviour.”
