VODAFONE and Three Mobile have revealed how their merger will affect customers and unveiled a new rule to cancel contracts for free.
From July, customers will be able to take advantage of a new “Just Ask Once” promise which aims to solve complaints quickly.
Vodafone and Three have announced a new range ofAlamy
As part of the service, users will be able to message with a customer service member through the Vodafone app.
The move aims to speed up how customers’ problems are handled and cut down the time users are placed on hold.
Initially, only Vodafone customers will be able to use the service, with a date for when it will be rolled out to legacy Three users yet to be confirmed.
Customers will be able to message with the person handling their complaint directly and will receive regular message updates until the issue is resolved.
Mobile and broadband users facing problems will also only have to deal with one staff member handling their complaint.
The mobile and broadband giant said if the issue isn’t resolved to the customers’ satisfaction, they will be able to “simply part ways without penalty”.
Typically, customers are charged an exit fee if they wish to end their contract early. Even if they are unhappy with the service.
These fees vary depending on the provider and the remaining months on the contract.
If you are unsure if you will be charged an exit fee, you can check your contract terms or contact your provider.
Vodafone’s customer service number will still remain open for customers if they wish to call and speak with staff directly.
The tie-up was first announced in 2023 but faced a probe by the competition watchdog, which was worried about the negative effect on consumers.
The Competition and Markets Authority feared it could substantially reduce options for mobile customers and lead to higher bills.
The CMA gave the thumbs up in December, as long as the two firms agreed to invest billions of pounds to roll out a combined 5G network across the UK.
They were also told to offer shorter-term customer protections requiring the merged company to cap certain mobile tariffs for three years.
ALL CHANGE AT VODAFONETHREE
Alongside improving customer service, bosses aim to delivery strong 5G service to 99.5% of the population by 2034.
The pair also plan to open two customer care centres inBelfastand Sheffield.
Vodafone and Three both operate their own stores across the country but the company says it has “no planned retail redundancies”.
The move has been backed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, who said: “I’m delighted that that this huge investment is being made in mobile phone network infrastructure.
“Better connecting people with families, loved ones and work by providing stronger, more widespread 5G coverage.”
WILL PRICES RISE?
Analysis by Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun
All these changes sound pretty exciting – but most customers will be wondering if it will cost them more.
VodafoneThree says its mobile network boost comes at “no extra cost”.
And bosses have insisted as much to get the deal over the line for months.
Vodafone’s CEO Margherita Della Valle told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme in December that the merger would cause “no extra costs from public funding and no extra cost for our customers”.
The company has had to agree to a number of legally binding commitments to win the approval of the competition regulator CMA.
One of those was a cap on “selected mobile tariffs and data plans” for three years.
As things stand Vodafone, Three and sub-brands VOXI, SMARTY and Talkmobile, will continue to sell their own mobile products, so it shouldn’t result in less choice or competition.

Helen couldn’t resist sharing a funny reel about Father’s Day
The racy ensemble featured a lacy bra that showed off her curves, teamed with matching underwear, thigh-high stockings, and suspenders.
After showcasing her sizzling look, Helen took to Instagram Stories with a thinly veiled dig at her ex.
She posted a meme that read: “What are you getting your baby daddy for Father’s Day,” paired with a dramatic clip of Whitney Houston belting out “nothing” from the 1992 film The Bodyguard.
Helen and Scott, who share three kids, ended their 13-year relationship in 2022.
She later began dating Robbie Talbot, 45, but that romance ended last month after a year together.
Reflecting on the split from Scott, Helen revaeled that the decision to part ways was hers after they kept “breaking up and then getting back together”.
“In the end, it was me who decided [to break up],” she told The Sun.
“I’ll always be sad it didn’t work out, and we still have love for each other, but we’re happier apart.”
Speaking candidly on Charlotte Dawson’s Naughty Corner podcast, Helen opened up further about their complicated dynamic.
“I still love him very much, I care about him deeply, but we don’t like each other.
“We don’t like each other at all, we don’t get on. I do know that Scott – he’d never admit it – cares about me too and he does love me.
“But I’m so done, I could never have another relationship again where we would always be bickering. I haven’t got another argument in me.
“As women we try and do anything we can to make it work with the father of your children and I did.
“But I think for me if I was in a relationship with someone else it would have to be easy because I haven’t got the energy in me again, I’ve done all that with the father of my kids.”
She also described their co-parenting arrangement with a hint of humour, admitting it’s often a challenge.
Helen said the dynamic is “hilarious” and that the pair do their best to avoid each other – mainly to prevent any arguments in front of the kids.

RACHEL Reeves refused to rule out hiking up taxes after her spending plans were threatened by dismal growth figures.
The Chancellor insisted she wasn’t going to write Budgets for the next four years after the UK economy for shrank by 0.3 per cent in April – the biggest monthly drop for 18 months.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves insisted today she’s not going to write the next four Budgets after being pressed on autumn tax risesSky News
The move came after she hit back at suggestions she was the ‘Klarna Chancellor’ after accusations her spending review was buy now and pay later.
Ms Reeves told LBC News: “I am not going to write four years worth of budgets… It would be very risky for a Chancellor to write a budget in a world as uncertain as this.
“I can say I won’t have to repeat a budget like last year, I wiped the slate clean. We do now have that path to lower borrowing and debt”.
The Chancellor was speaking after she revelled in a £300 billion spending splurge increasing spending for health and defence and outlining new infrastructure projects.
But Ms Reeves pointed to “uncertainty about tariffs” had led to the fall in GDP for April following Donald Trump”s global tariff war.
The world trade war combined with stubborn inflation and slow growth are likely to see tax rises or major spending cuts at the Budget this autumn.
She said: “We know that April was a challenging month.
“There was a huge uncertainty about tariffs, and one of the things if you dig into those GDP numbers today is exports weakening and also production weakening because of that uncertainty in the world around tariffs.”
Analysis: Growth figures are wake up call after spending splurge
By Ryan Sabey, Economics Editor
Rachel Reeves revelled in a major spending splurge yesterday – but this morning she wakes up to a reality check.
The Chancellor says that the figures are “clearly disappointing” but its a stark reminder of the fragility of the UK economy and how difficult it will be to turbo-charge growth.
The effects of ‘Awful April’ – when a slew of added costs for business including that national insurance rise came in – has hit home.
This Labour government has put that push for growth as their number one mission which will have the knock-on effect of driving up living standards.
After a positive start to the year – where we saw growth up by 0.7 per cent – today we see it drop by 0.3 per cent for April.
We shouldn’t take one month’s figures in isolation but the fear is conditions for business and entrepreneurs have hit them hard.
The hike to national insurance contributions and minimum wage for firms kicked in at the start of April and this is how the economy has reacted.
As the British Chambers of Commerce outline the NI rise has hit investment, recruitment and prices.
The uncertainty of Donald Trump’s tariffs is also a drag on the UK with the largest monthly fall on record in goods exports to the US.
With dismal economic growth, the global trade war and stubborn inflation, the Chancellor will surely be left with little choice but to cut spending or raise taxes in the autumn.
She has iron-clad fiscal rules she insists are non-negotiable so it feels inevitable something will have to give.
Tory leader Kemi Badenoch hit out at Ministers saying they were waging a “war” with business.
She highlighted how ‘Awful April’ when National Insurance contributions for business were hikes and minimum wage payments went up.
The party leader said: “This is a war on the private sector, where private businesses are having to cut their coat according to their cloth.
“They’re having to downsize. They’re having to let go of staff, but no reforms are being asked for any parts of the public sector. “Of course, we want to fund public services, but we need to make sure that we’re doing things better.”
Ms Reeves outlined her spending review yesterday saying it was time for national renewal.
She told Labour MPs at an event last night that she needed to “sell” the benefits of her plans to voters on the doorstep.
David CummingsCelebrity hair stylist Michael Douglas reveals how to make the most of your ‘do at any age[/caption]
Anabel Kingsley, brand president for haircare brand Philip KingsleyTimes Newspapers Ltd
“We need to do away with the old-fashioned idea that women should cut their hair short when they hit 40 or 50,” Michael says.
“That said, if you are struggling for ideas there are styles that can be really flattering at certain ages – and they should fit with your lifestyle too.”
Here Michael, 49, reveals the most flattering style for every age and trichologist and brand president for Philip Kingsley Anabel Kingsley reveals how to care for your hair through the decades.
20s: The Pixie
SplashIris Law knows how to sport her Pixie cut[/caption]
Michael says: “In your 20s, you can really do whatever you like with your hair, though it is a good time to try a short pixie crop.
“When you are older, short hair can be quite exposing but at this age it is striking and youthful.
“It’s easy to maintain if you are building a career and have a busy social life. Colour wise, you can get away with virtually anything.
“Be brave. Don’t focus too much on face shape, think more about your hair type and texture.”
Anabel says: “Right now your hair is at its healthiest so it can withstand heat styling.
“However, I’d still recommend using a heat protectant spray to protect your hair and a pre-shampoo conditioning treatment to restore elasticity and bring frizzy, tangled strands back to life.”
30s: Shoulder length with fringe
GettyKeeping your hair long and adding a flattering fringe can be a life saver when hitting your thirties, just like Taylor Swift[/caption]
Michael says: “Lots of women enter the kids zone in their 30s so keeping your hair long so you can tie it back can be a life saver.
“A fringe is also a good idea. The concave shape, which is slightly shorter in the middle, is super flattering as it frames the face.
“Keep it long but all one length to give that thick hair a chance to catch up.”
Anabel says: “Use heat less and focus on limiting damage. If you do put your hair up a lot, make sure to use a gentle hairbrush with rounded prongs and a vented, cushioned base, so it’s not too harsh.
“Using elastic hair bands or tying them too tight can cause damage to your hair or breakage, so opt for a soft scrunchie or silk hairband instead.
40s: Choppy bob
GettyA messy bob like Keira Knightley will make you look younger[/caption]
Michael says: “A bob is good, either to the jawline or chin length, but keep it choppy or a bit messy.
“If you go to clean, it can expose your age. Styles with more movement and texture are less ageing.
“I would be wary of going too short. Sometimes it looks fab but I’ve seen a lot of people do this and then be surprised by how old they look as short hair reveals more of the face. If you want to try a shorter look do it gradually.”
“Aging hair has a weaker cuticle, lower levels of lipids as well as loss of elasticity, all of which would make strands more vulnerable to damage.
“Taking a gentle approach when styling, as well as protecting and strengthening your hair is more important than ever, so let hair dry naturally and simply style with a soft brush.”
50s: Beachy waves
Shutterstock EditorialLong beachy waves in your fifties like Alison Hammond can look so youthful[/caption]
Michael says: “A lot of women feel they should cut their hair as they get older but that is an old fashioned idea.
“Plenty of women let their hair grow long and it can look as fab as it did in your 20s.
“Long, beachy waves can look really attractive and so youthful. That said, if you go completely grey, having a short crop can look really strong and modern.
“Either of these options shows who you really are: ‘I’m 50, and I don’t care’.
Anabel says: “Keeping your hair long means you can do plenty of up dos in your 50s.
“This is a great option for more sensitive hair that has lost collagen with age or that might have been affected by hormonal changes and years of sun, pollution and heat styling. Up dos often require less heat.”
60-plus: Asymmetric or diamond shaped bob
AFPA graduated or diamond shaped bob is the best hairstyle for anyone in their sixties, Helen Mirren sure knows how to rock it[/caption]
Michael says: “Often people of this age don’t want to spend ages doing their hair any more.
“A graduated or diamond shaped bob is one of my favourite looks for this age as it’s easy to maintain.
“The diamond shape rises up to your ears and then goes up towards your parting – but an asymmetric bob is also really flattering.
“It can look super modern and ageless and is especially attractive if your hair is grey or curly. Adding a fringe can also be really sophisticated.”
Anabel says: “Keeping your hair short enables you achieve more volume as you get older due to hair thinning and texture changes.”
5 days agoNew York StateComments Off on Apple boss shares way to skip infuriating call centre ‘hold’, summer holiday iPhone hack & free car upgrade for millions
A TOP Apple executive has revealed the best new tricks coming to your phone later this year – and there’s a bonus upgrade for drivers too.
In a UK-exclusive chat with The Sun, Apple’s Greg Joswiak revealed a clever way to avoid being stuck on hold, an essential summer holiday hack, and a “once-in-a-decade” change to the iPhone.
The SunThe Sun’s tech editor Sean Keach sat down with top Apple exec Greg Joswiak in Cupertino, California[/caption]
The SunGreg revealed future AI plans, new free features coming to your iPhone soon, and a major upgrade for millions of drivers[/caption]
I sat down with ‘Joz’ at Apple Park in California this week to find out what’s next for your iPhone, and whether the tech giant is “late to AI”.
Apple is locked in a gadget arms race with the likes of Google and Amazon – but Joz reckons Apple’s strategy isn’t “late”. It’s just different.
“Our strategy really is a bit different than what some other are doing,” Joz told us. He’s one of Apple’s most senior leaders, in charge of global marketing and reporting directly to company chief Tim Cook.
“We didn’t want to create yet another chatbot. There’s brilliant ones that are out there already – they do an amazing job.”
SMARTER PHONE
Joz explained that the whole point is that the apps and systems work better without gadget owners “even always knowing that they’re going to Apple Intelligence”.
Apple Intelligence debuted last year, adding the ability to create your own custom emoji, get help rewriting text, and generate images from scratch.
Some of the showy AI-supercharged Siri upgrades that were promised still haven’t arrived yet – but a lot of the best AI tricks are meant to just quietly work without you noticing.
Joz gives the example of Hold Assist and Call Screening – two of the blockbuster features coming to your iPhone later this year, likely September.
Hold Assist is a robot that holds on a call centre line so you don’t have to.
And once a human finally picks up, you’ll be alerted and can join the call – dodging the misery of call centre hold music.
Call Screening is a similar AI feature that uses a robot to vet your calls.
So when a stranger rings you, the robot will gather info and then share it with you.
It’ll ask the caller for their name and why they’re calling – and then type the answer out on screen.
AppleYour iPhone will soon be able to “hold” for you – freeing you up to live your life[/caption]
“Those are great examples of how Intelligence can help the features without you necessarily knowing you’re using intelligence, right?,” Joz said.
“And again, you didn’t have to go on an Apple Intelligence app to make that happen.
“It’s just the experience is better.”
He went on: “We can recognise: we know you’re on hold music. Do you want us to help you here?
“We can put you on hold and we can take care of it from there.”
These tricks are coming in the iOS 26 update later this year.
It’s a free upgrade that’ll roll out to millions of iPhone models.
And not only are they handy tricks to avoid a nuisance, Call Screening might even save you from a costly nightmare.
AppleCall Screening means you don’t have to pick up the phone to spammers – or worse, scammers[/caption]
The SunJoz said that Call Screening is an “effective” feature that you might not even realise uses AI[/caption]
“In its most ideal state, keeping you from getting scammed is a good thing,” Joz said.
“But we all get spam, whether it’s in our messages or our phone calls. And we’re always looking for ways to deal with this.
“And here’s yet another one – and hopefully a pretty effective one.”
Joz also points out that the current line-up of AI tricks is just the beginning.
Apple rarely talks about the future – but Joz teased plans to introduce significant AI upgrades for years to come.
“This isn’t something that we do for one, two, three years,” he told us.
“This is the kind of thing we’ll be working on for a decade, or decades, right? We’re working on this for a long time because it’s incredibly powerful stuff.”
TALK TO ME!
One of the headline new features is the roll-out of Live Translation.
The SunThe Sun’s tech editor was able to test the Live Translation feature in Messages[/caption]
The SunIt can automatically translate conversations with you – eliminating language barriers entirely[/caption]
This lets you understand and even speak in foreign languages live during conversations.
It’s available inside the Translate app, but will also work across text conversations in Messages, FaceTime, and even phone calls.
It all happens in real-time, so you can have a natural conversation even if you don’t speak the same language as the person you’re chatting with.
“I’m especially looking forward to using it when I travel.
AppleLive Translate will also work over FaceTime video calls[/caption]
AppleYou’ll be able to use Live Translate on regular phone calls too[/caption]
“We’ve all found ourselves in a situation where we’re in a different country, and we’re running into somebody who doesn’t speak to the same language.”
Joz added: “We can all think of times that we could have used something like that.
“And now you have it and it’s, again, very simple to use.”
FRESH APPLE
The new updates don’t just add AI tricks, though. Apple has also announced a brand new redesign for how the software on its gadgets looks.
The SunGreg said this latest redesign is even bigger than the iOS 7 makeover back in 2013[/caption]
The makeover is called Liquid Glass and, as the name suggests, looks very glassy.
Senior Apple execs say the new icons and animations are so technically demanding, they wouldn’t have been possible until recently.
“You’re seeing content beneath this glass, this translucent glass, which reflects the light. All that is happening with no latency in real time,” Joz said.
“This is a big thing to do, right?
AppleiOS 26 introduces a glassy new look for the iPhone[/caption]
“And so it’s not the kind of thing you want to do too often, right?
“It’s kind of an opportunity that comes around every decade or so. The last time we did this was 2013, so 12 years ago with iOS 7.”
He added: “This one is, in a lot of ways, even more ambitious.
Joz explained that iOS 7 was just about improving the design for iPhone.
AppleIt totally changes how buttons, icons, and apps appear[/caption]
AppleThe new Liquid Glass aesthetic is rolling out across Apple’s entire line-up of gadgets[/caption]
But this revamp works to “commonise” the look across almost all of Apple’s gadgets.
“They do come from one company and one design time. It should feel that way, right?
“And it should feel more comfortable as you’re using them or moving across our products.”
ON THE ROAD
Of course it’s not just iPhones, iPads, and Macs getting upgraded – but your car too.
AppleApple CarPlay is also getting a Liquid Glass makeover[/caption]
AppleThe new CarPlay adds Message Tapbacks so you can quickly react to texts with an emoji[/caption]
Apple is the tech titan behind CarPlay, the software that’s now supported by almost every new car.
CarPlay launched back in 2014, and uses your iPhone to offer an infotainment system on your car’s screen.
It can happen via a cable or even wirelessly, and gives you access to your apps, music, contacts and much more.
“It’s a sigh of relief when you get in the car and you say: ‘Oh my goodness, it has CarPlay.
AppleCarPlay works using your iPhone – so the new features are coming as part of iOS 26[/caption]
“You know automatically how to use everything – but it also has your content, which is great.
“You know how to use your maps, you want to listen to your music.”
He added: “Many people are like you – they wouldn’t be a car without CarPlay.”
CarPlay is extremely popular.
AppleYou’ll be able to add widgets to your CarPlay screen for the first time[/caption]
AppleCarPlay will also support a special Liquid Glass Dark Mode[/caption]
Joz noted that CarPlay is used a staggering 600 million times a day around the world.
“It is by far the most popular phone projection system in a car,” Joz said.
“We worked very hard to minimise glance time and to make sure that you didn’t have to take your eyes off the road for longer than a couple seconds to get something done.
“And to be able to do things with your voice as much as possible – and to create a very simple user interface.
“To your point, it has become incredibly important to our users.”
CarPlay is changing with iOS 26. For a start, it’s getting the slick new Liquid Glass look.
But you’ll be able to use Tapbacks for messages to quickly react, widgets for your screen with important info, and Live Activities (like a sports score).
Apple has also just (finally) debuted its next major version of CarPlay: CarPlay Ultra.
CarPlay Ultra is a souped-up version of CarPlay that also bundles in your car’s instruments and controlsApple
It’s now available in new models from British motoring giant Aston Martin, but it’s destined for more vehicles in the future too.
With CarPlay Ultra, it’s not just replacing your infotainment screen, but much more.
“We’re also bringing out that next generation of CarPlay, which we just brought out for the first time about a month ago,” Joz told The Sun.
“CarPlay is this beautiful ability to use the features of your phone.
AppleYou can customise the look of your instrument panel in CarPlay[/caption]
British motoring giant Aston Martin is the first carmaker to roll out CarPlay UltraAston Martin
“We wanted to have an experience with CarPlay Ultra that allows you – through that same interface that you can control your phone – to also control the aspects of your car
“Whether it’s the seat heaters or the heating system in general, or even the car radio.
“Things that are outside of normal iPhone capabilities. To control these with CarPlay Ultra.
“We’re very happy with the initial rollout of that. Some of the first vehicles started coming out last month. There’s plenty more brands working on it.”
WHO IS APPLE'S 'JOZ'?
Here's Apple's official bio for Joz...
“Greg ‘Joz’ Joswiak is Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, reporting to CEO Tim Cook,” Apple writes.
“Since joining Apple in June 1986, Joz has played a pivotal role in developing and launching some of the world’s most beloved consumer products, including the original iPod and iPhone.
“Joz began his career at Apple working on the early Macintosh computers and supporting the Mac’s community of third-party developers.
“Joz has over 30 years of marketing and management experience at Apple, most recently as the vice president of Apple Product Marketing where he managed the product marketing and product management teams responsible for Apple’s entire product lineup.
“Joz graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1986.”

ONE MORE THING
The list of new features announced at Apple’s WWDC event this week was enormous.
So I asked Joz what he thinks people might have missed.
And he gave a special shout-out to a long-demanded iPad change – a good reminder that it’s not just iPhone owners getting free upgrades.
“People were very excited about us being able to bring a new windowing system to iPadOS,” Joz said.
AppleThere’s a brand new look for iPad too – bringing new window management in iPadOS 26[/caption]
“And again, doing it in an Apple sort of way.
“Which is: look, if you love the simple experience that your iPad has today and you want to continue with that, then great.
“But if you want to take it further and be able to use multiple windows and menus and all the things that come with that, then we enabled that in a very simple way for iPad users as well.
Apple is expected to roll out its new software upgrades later this year – this usually happens in September.
The SunJoz has decades of experience at Apple, and is one of company chief Tim Cook’s most trusted advisors[/caption]
But we’d expect to see a public beta test version before then that you’ll be able to download and try out before the full release.
