Boots shoppers devastated as popular snack is axed from shops

BOOTS has axed a popular snack, leaving customers devastated.

The chemist has confirmed that it no longer sells Eat Real lentil chips.

The tasty crisps come in several flavours, including Tomato and Basil, Salted, Sour Cream and Chive and Chilli and Lemon.

The plant-based snack is made with nutritious pulses, grains and greens.

A 95g bag usually costs around £2.

Shoppers have taken to social media to ask where the popular snack had gone.

One visited social media website X, formerly Twitter, to ask: “@BootsUK please tell me you’ve not stopped selling the chilli and lemon lentil crisps.”

To which the Boots Help account replied: “Hi Jo, thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately it appears that this product has been discontinued in our stores. I apologise for the disappointment this may cause.”

Retailers often discontinue products to make way for newer items on shelves based on sales and customer demand.

When The Sun reached out to Boots it confirmed that the crisps will no longer be available on its shelves.

But it said that shoppers can still get their hands on other lentil-based crisps individually and as part of the Boots Meal Deal.

Among the other options are Properchips, which come in BBQ and Salt & Vinegar flavours.

The snacks are a similar price, at around £2 for 100g.

Other discontinued products

The lentil crisps are not the only product that has been pulled from supermarket shelves recently.

Tesco recently axed its southern friend chicken instant flavour noodles in a blow to shoppers.

The snacks cost around 50p and were available in store and online.

Why are products axed or recipes changed?

ANALYSIS by chief consumer reporter James Flanders.

Food and drinks makers have been known to tweak their recipes or axe items altogether.

They often say that this is down to the changing tastes of customers.

There are several reasons why this could be done.

For example, government regulation, like the “sugar tax,” forces firms to change their recipes.

Some manufacturers might choose to tweak ingredients to cut costs.

They may opt for a cheaper alternative, especially when costs are rising to keep prices stable.

For example, Tango Cherry disappeared from shelves in 2018.

It has recently returned after six years away but as a sugar-free version.

Fanta removed sweetener from its sugar-free alternative earlier this year.

Suntory tweaked the flavour of its flagship Lucozade Original and Orange energy drinks.

While the amount of sugar in every bottle remains unchanged, the supplier swapped out the sweetener aspartame for sucralose.

The supermarket also axed its eight packs of beef sausages this week in a blow to BBQ fans.

Customers can still buy six packs of Tesco Finest Aberdeen Angus Beef Sausages for £3 and four packs of Tesco Finest Pork and Beef smoked sausages for £4.

Meanwhile, last month The Sun exclusively revealed that Cadbury’s has axed Fry’s Coffee Cream after first launching it in 2023.

Cadbury didn’t say when the Fry’s Coffee Cream multi-packs were discontinued – just that they were available while stocks lasted.

Carlsberg Britvic has also axed Tango Dark Berry Sugar Free after customers reported that they struggled to find it on shelves.

A spokesperson for the drinks maker said it stopped producing the fizzy drink earlier this year.

‘I know the facts’ – Rasmus Hojlund breaks silence on Man Utd exit rumours as Champions League giants line up transfer

RASMUS HOJLUND has broken his silence on reports that suggest he will leave Manchester United.

Rumours began to circulate earlier this week that the Red Devils want to cut their losses on the 22-year-old this summer.

Hojlund is said to be on the radar of Inter Milan, who could be willing to splash £40million on him.

But the striker revealed he expects to remain at Old Trafford for next season.

Hojlund told Sport TV2 after Denmark beat Northern Ireland 2-1 in a friendly yesterday: “I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United.

“I’m looking forward to going on a summer holiday and then I’m fully dedicated to the project that’s underway.

“I know I can’t get much out of reading things.

“I know what the facts are – and that is that I have a contract with Manchester United until 2030.

“I expect to play there, so I’m just getting ready for a summer holiday and then hopefully a good pre-season.”

Hojlund arrived from Atalanta two years ago in a deal worth an initial £64million, with £8million in potential add-ons.

But the Dane has struggled to live up to the price tag, scoring just ten goals in 52 appearances in the season just finished.

Despite his Man Utd difficulties, Hojlund is still rated highly in Italy and Napoli have also been linked with a shock swoop.

Ruben Amorim wants to add more attacking talent to his squad in addition to completing a £62.5m deal for Wolves star Matheus Cunha.

A reunion with Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres is on the cards for £60m.

English tidal lido right on the beach that you can only visit twice a day

ONE of the prettiest pools in the UK is near a popular seaside town – but you will have to time it well to jump in.

Found in the historic fishing village in West Cornwall, Mousehole Rock Pool in Cornwall is open for 24 hours a day, but when you can swim in it depends on whether the tide is in or out.

Mousehole Rock Pool is a tidal swim spot that you can only visit twice a day – because it’s best to go in high tide.

During high tide, the pool is exposed to the sea for a few hours on either side, making it accessible for swimming.

The pool can drain with the falling tide and will become shallower.

The tide varies throughout the year, but in summer, Mousehole usually has two high tides a day – in mid-morning and the evening.

The best time to visit the tidal pool is just after high tide and you can check these with the 7-day tide forecast before going.

Mousehole Rock Pool was built in 1969 for the local children to teach them how to swim, and has remained popular ever since.

Anyone who ventures there will discover the stunning views across Mount’s Bay towards St Michael’s Mount and the Lizard.

There’s also the Rock Pool Cafe Mousehole which has reopened after winter break.

It’s situated above the Mousehole Rock Pool cafe so you can take in the views over the bay.

The pool recently went under repairs to plug a leak as it wasn’t holding water during low tide.

The repairs were spearheaded by the Friends of Mousehole Rock Pool.

Volunteers with the support of local businesses have already emptied the community pool

The first phase of the repair work had been due to start in March 2021 but was delayed.

It took place on July 10, 2022 with a second repair day was also held later that year to repair the rock pool and again in 2023.

More work is needed to maintain the pool as the plans going forward are to restore the access area for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

The village of Mousehole, just less than three miles south of Penzance and is especially popular during the summer.

However during the winter, Mousehole is considered one of the most magical place to visit because of its Christmas light display.

Its annual Christmas lights adorn the harbour, usually from mid December.

But there’s not just a couple of lights – there’s an estimated 7,000 bulbs that light up every evening and around 30,000 tourists head down to the coast to see them each year.

And more UK lidos, sea pools and splash pads that are free to get into – perfect for the hot weather.

Plus, the ‘national treasure’ beach lido in the UK’s trendiest seaside town – that you can’t swim in.

Nepo baby with Hollywood A-list parents lands huge movie role – can you guess who she is?

A nepo baby with Hollywood A-list parents stunned on the red carpet this week – but can you guess who she is ?

The star is following in the footsteps of her famous actress mother and is set to have a huge role in an upcoming Hollywood film.

Nico Parker wowed on the red carpet at the Train Your Dragon Immersive Experience screening at Frameless in London, this week.

The 20-year-old showed up and showed out in an elegant cream and pink dress with sheer laced sleeves and back which draped to the floor.

The British actress paired the look with some pointed nude heels and some simple jewellery.

If you haven’t already guessed Nico is the daughter to none other than actress Thandiwe Newton and famous director Ol Parker.

Thandie and Ol also share 24-year-old Ripley and their youngest son Booker.

Nico shot to stardom at just 14-years-old with her Hollywood debut of the remake of Disney’s classic live-action Dumbo.

She has gone on to have notable roles in HBO’s hit series The Last Of Us and Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.

Now, the actress is set to star in her biggest role to date as Astrid in the upcoming live-action remake of the 2010 film How To Train Your Dragon.

The film is set to release in the UK on June 9.

The story will follow Hiccup played by standout actor Mason Thames on his journey bonding with a dragon, Gerard Butler will also be starring in the film as his father Stoick.

This week, while promoting the film, Nico opened up about her famous mum and dad, on ITV’s Lorraine, and revealed how “supportive” they were about her career.

“My parents, the really lovely thing about both of them is that their advice is predominantly about, you know, how to be a good person, rather than, you know, how to behave on a film set,” she said.

“And I think that what’s lovely about that is that the two kind of bleed into one another, because I think it’s much more important to be a nice and normal person and be kind to others, rather than, you know, know what angle best suits you.

“So, the advice that I get from them feels very, very much more so about life and things like that.

“And the wonderful thing about that is that you can then take it on to work and wherever you go.”

Back in 2018, Thandiwe appeared on UK daytime show This Morning and spoke about how she manages her daughter entering the acting world.

She said: “Having a mother and father in the industry… she’s been on endless sets. It’s not that she takes it for granted, but it’s not a world that she feels she’s not entitled to be in.

“(Plus) she has her mum right there like a lioness checking that everything is looked after. You can’t stop the industry operating the way it has unless the truth comes out.

“I feel this great relief, excitement for the women coming into this industry now,” she added.

Prince Harry’s latest stunt sends a terrible message – the King should sever him for good, says expert

PRINCE Harry has reportedly considered changing his surname to Spencer, stepping away from his family’s name, Mountbatten-Windsor.

While reports say the Duke of Sussex was counselled against the decision by Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, royal experts have claimed that it “sends a message” to the royals.

Harry is said to have consulted Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer about the idea[/caption]

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, former Sun Royal Correspondent Charles Rae said: “I think as well that this is another Harry not knowing what he wants to do.

“It was only less than a month ago that he was pleading for a reconciliation with his father and his brother.

“And the next thing we hear, and I think the story was well sourced, he wants to change the name from Mountbatten-Windsor to Spencer.

“Well, that is sending a terrible message to the royal family that he doesn’t really want a reconciliation.

“He wants to be completely severed from the royal family.

“And I think the king should grant his wish.

“I think he should sever him from the royal family.”

The 40-year-old asked Princess Diana‘s brother – Earl Spencer – for advice during a visit to the UK, it is claimed.

But the Duke of Sussex was reportedly told the legal side of doing so would be too difficult.

A friend of Harry’s told the Mail: “They had a very amicable conversation and Spencer advised him against taking such a step.”

Royal correspondent Sarah Hewson added on Royal Exclusive: “I mean, is it to send a message to the royal family?

“Is it to say, ‘ok, fine, you don’t want to talk to us, then we’re not a part of this anymore’.

“Is it because he feels much closer to his Spencer relatives?

“They are the ones who turned up for the 10th anniversary Invictus service at St Paul’s, for example.

“There weren’t any members of the royal family there. Is it to honour his mother?

“Some more cynical commentators have suggested, well, it would be very good marketing in the United States to have the Spencer name and Lilibet would then be Lilibet Diana Spencer.”

SURNAME CONFUSION

Harry’s children go by Mountbatten-Windsor – which combines the Royal Family’s name of Windsor and the Duke of Edinburgh‘s surname.

However, Meghan Markle claimed in her Netflix show that her surname is now Sussex.

The couple became the Sussexes when the late Queen gave them the titles when they married in 2018.

Harry previously had the title Prince Henry of Wales. But on his wedding day, he became The Duke of Sussex,  a title which had been vacant since 1843.

Meghan was seen to firmly correct Mindy Kaling after her friend called her Markle on her Netflix show.

In an episode on With Love, Meghan, the Duchess said: “It’s so funny you keep saying ‘Meghan Markle‘ – you know I’m Sussex now.

“You have kids and you go, ‘No, I share my name with my children’.

“I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me but it just means so much to go ‘This is OUR family name. Our little family name.’ “

Mountbatten-Windsor is the surname of descendants of the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Relations have been tense between Prince Harry and his UK family in recent years[/caption]

Questions were raised when Harry and Meghan called their daughter a princess for the first time in 2023, when her christening was announced.

The children were then officially named as prince and princess on the Royal Family’s official website.

Archie and Lilibet are sixth and seventh in line to the throne.

Before their titles were listed as prince and princess on the royal website, they were down as Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.

They gained the titles when King Charles became the King, as they are grandchildren of the monarch.

Why did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle step back as senior working royals?

PRINCE Harry has always wanted out of the Royal Family and the repercussions will be felt for years, an expert has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex has lived in California with his wife Meghan Markle since 2020 after they dramatically quit their jobs as working royals and moved across the pond.

Katie Nicholl, who is Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent, told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show that Megxit did not come as a surprise to her.

Speaking to The Sun’s Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson, the commentator explained: “Anyone who knows Harry is aware he’s always wanted a way out of the Royal Family.

“He’s said multiple times on the record that he wished he’d never been born a prince.

“I think he really is living the life he wants to now. It’s very, very sad that it’s played out the way it has.”

In a statement made on the Sussexes’ Instagram account as they stepped back in 2020, the pair wrote: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.

“We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.

“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”
