Army bosses plan to buy drones that can be fired from VANS after Ukraine’s devastating attack on Russia

THE Army plans to buy drones which can be launched out of vans after Ukraine blitzed a third of Russia’s bombers from lorries.

Top Brass issued a request for a covert launcher that fits in a “Sprinter truck or regular Transit van”.

The weapon, codenamed Project Volley, must be robust, simple to use, weigh no more than 275kg, and fire at least five drones in four minutes at speeds of 200kmph.

The MoD put out a message to industry, known as a “notice for contracts”, and will potentially give the launchers to Ukraine.

It said: “The user will use the launcher in a high-threat environment with persistent enemy surveillance.

“Therefore it must create a minimal signature — acoustic, heat, visual when used, eg hiding in plain sight.”

It comes after Ukraine claimed to have destroyed at least 41 Russian aircraft on Sunday with 117 drones hidden on cargo trucks.

They were in pre-fabricated sheds that were loaded on to flatbed trucks and driven across Russia.

As they neared airfields, the roofs of the sheds flipped open and the drones took off.

They destroyed Tu-95 and Tu-22 long-range bombers and prized A-50 Beriev command and control aircraft.

Russia continues to launch drone strikes of its own, including one on a residential area in Kharkiv yesterday.

The MoD’s notice stressed urgency by saying that it is not interested in solutions “that will not be ready for UK field demonstration or testing in October”.

The MoD said Project Volley was part of a £5billion investment in “advanced new weapons” based on lessons learned from Ukraine.

It added: “This investment will improve accuracy and lethality for our Armed Forces, while boosting UK export potential.”

Coronation Street fans shocked as they spot star’s ‘fuming’ face as he loses out to rival at British Soap Awards

CORONATION Street fans were shocked as they spotted one star’s reaction to losing at The British Soap Awards 2025.

ITV Viewers were quick to comment on actor Luca Toolan’s disappointed expression after rival EastEnders scooped the award for Best Single Episode.

EastEnders’ flashback episode about Phil Mitchell’s Psychosis won[/caption]

The soap star played Mason Radcliffe on the soap before his character was tragically killed off.

The actor’s chances of picking up an award tonight was dashed when it was announced that EastEnders’ special flashback episode about Phil Mitchell’s Psychosis had won.

Those watching at home claimed Luca looked “furious” with the result.

One wrote: “The Mason actor didn’t look too happy there.”

“Oh no! Luca Toolan looked gutted,” a second said.

While some fans said Luca was “robbed”.

This person said: “Sorry but that award should have gone to Luca for the knife crime story for Mason.”

A second posted: “Corrie robbed, should’ve won for that Mason storyline.”

Another fumed: “Excuse my language but how the F*** did Mason’s death not win anything? Diabolical results.”

Shocking scenes saw Mason attacked by his brothers and flee – but the thugs chased him down.

And when Dylan tried to intervene – bringing Mason’s knife – it was taken from him and used to stab Mason.

He stumbled into the playground and hallucinated a future where he reunited with Betsy and planned for his new life in Germany.

But as the truth was revealed about Dylan’s involvement, the reality was shown as Abi Webster found Mason bleeding out.

She screamed for an ambulance and tried to apply pressure to his wounds, desperate to save him.

Mason told her: “I’m going to die, aren’t I? I’m going to die.”

Abi said: “You’re not going to die. Mason, listen to me, an ambulance is on the way and you’re not going to die.”

However the ambulance was distracted by a hoax call and delayed in getting to Mason so he was in a bad way by the time it arrived.

Rushed to hospital with a weeping Betsy and Abi with him, the doctors battled to save his life.

But sadly there was nothing they could do and Mason died in the hospital leaving Betsy devastated.

BBC rival EastEnders swept the board after collecting a total of eight gongs in its 40th anniversary year – more than double its nearest rival, Channel 4’s Hollyoaks who got three awards.

EastEnders was awarded Best Soap after its huge live episode and anniversary week which saw Anita Dobson return as Angie Watts and Martin Fowler killed off in the arms of his love, Stacey.

It was certainly not the only award that they picked up with actress Lacey Turner receiving the trophy for Best Leading Performer ahead of her impending exit from the show.

The 40th anniversary also managed to clutch the Scene of the Year thanks to Angie’s shock return.

Steve McFadden a won a trophy for Best Dramatic Performance as Phil Mitchell but did not attend the ceremony with Angela Wynter and Rudolph Walker also receiving prizes as Patrick and Yolande – beating Corrie fan favourites Lisa Swain and Carla Connor, affectionately known as Swarla, to the Best On-Screen Partnership award.

The Walford based soap also collected the Comedy Performance gongs and Villain of the Year.

In a major blow to Coronation Street, only David Neilson picked up the Outstanding Achievement Award as Roy Cropper which was presented to him by by his on-screen wife Julie Hesmondhalgh.

Luxury £130 gift set urgently recalled over ‘serious health risk’ including banned chemical that can ‘harm unborn child’

A LUXURY perfume and candle gift set is being urgently recalled after posing a serious health risk.

The alarm was raised after a chemical that can damage the female reproductive system or harm unborn babies was discovered in the products.

The £130 Maison Louis Marie No 04 Bois de Balinbourt gift set was found to contain Butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA), which is prohibited in cosmetic products.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) made the decision to withdraw the set from shops after it failed to meet trading standards.

The box contains a 50ml eau de parfum, a 15ml perfume oil and a scented candle.

No. 04 Bois de Balincourt is a recipe of aromas including sandalwood, cedarwood, nutmeg, cinnamon, vetiver, and amber wood.

The gift set was sold via La Gent’s website.

This comes after Marks and Spencer recalled a popular baby product due to customer safety complaints.

Polarn O. Pyret Branded Poppy Print Rompers were recalled due to safety complaints.

Parents and carers of little ones have been asked to check their homes to see if they have the affected product.

The recall was made for the T94 8409A model in size 1-12 months old, which was sold online at M&S.

The company said: “Polarn O. Pyret has issued a Product Recall due to safety complaints with their Poppy Print Romper, T94 8409A in the specified sizes 1-12 Months”.

The online-only product means that affected items were not available to purchase from physical M&S stores during the original purchase period.

Those who bought the romper or received it as a gift have been urged to “return it immediately” at any M&S Clothing store. A full refund will be issued upon return.

M&S has said that further support is also being offered and if customers have further questions, they can call the company’s customer service line at 0333 014 8555.

The OPSS also recently rejected a Chinese product after it threatened “serious” suffocation fears.

Parents were strongly advised to avoid Belecoo’s baby stroller and car seat, which was recalled due to a lack of safety warnings.

The brand’s 580-2 model was deemed to pose a serious asphyxiation risk to babies and toddlers by Trading Standards.

It does not meet the requirements enforced by the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

The damning report claims that parents might unknowingly endanger their young children by letting them sleep in the seat.

Your product recall rights

Chief consumer reporter James Flanders reveals all you need to know.

Product recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.

As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.

But it’s often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.

If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.

When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you – the customer – to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don’t there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.

If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.

They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.

In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.

You should not be charged for any recall work – such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item

British Soap Awards viewers accuse ITV of ‘cutting out’ chants for EastEnders actress as BBC show dominates ceremony

BRITISH Soap Awards viewers accused ITV of “cutting chants” for EastEnders’ Laura Doddington on a night when the BBC soap dominated its rivals.

Ironically, the alleged quieting of cheers for Laura came during the Best Newcomer gong, which was won by Hollyoaks’ Isabelle Smith.

While viewers accepted Francine Osborne actress Isabelle was a worthy winner, they were keen for popular Laura, who plays Nicola Mitchell, to get her flowers.

One person wrote on X: “ITVX cutting the chants for Laura is EVIL.”

Another said: “I was gutted Laura didn’t win this award but the huge (edited out) chants of “Laura! Laura! Laura!” from the audience hopefully made up for it.”

A third fumed: “Naw as if they cut out our chant for Laura Dodington…fuming.”

In total, Enders scooped eight awards on the night including the coveted Best Soap, Best Leading Performer and Scene of the Year.

The televised ceremony got off to a nightmare start when a tech issue forced it off air for seven minutes.

An apology message read: “We’re sorry for the disruption.”

Fans were quick to take to social media with their complaints.

One wrote: “What the hell is going on ? Will it ever come on?”

A second said: “Oh dear looks like we got major problems on ITV1.”

A third commented: “Well, I guess I am not watching The Soap Awards on ITVX. What’s going on?”

While other fans thought the broadcaster was deliberately sabotaging the awards in response to EastEnders’ big win.

One wrote: “British Soap Awards not on are ITV going to be sorry for the disruption for the next 2 hours just because EastEnders won almost everything.”

Coronation Street had a night to forget, bagging just the specially curated Outstanding Achievement Award which went to Roy Cropper star David Neilson.

The show failed to secure wins in any of the main panel or viewer-voted categories amid ITV’s ongoing cash crisis and the mass cast exodus at the soap over the past six months.

Many have stocked up for Christmas already[/caption]

Parents who have already taken advantage of the sale have shared their giant hauls on social media to show what they picked up.

Emma Pascoe, took to Facebook to share her finds and what she did to get them.

She wrote: “More £1 items at B&M!

“I used the app to scan loads, but some were labelled on the shelf.”

The mum had found heaps of goodies for her daughters including LOL Doll accessories, craft kits and even DIY Taylor Swift crystal cushions – each for just £1.

She even found a tabletop art centre with a whiteboard on one side and a chalkboard on the other.

Another happy parent shared their haul of goodies too, writing: “My £1 b&m bargains! I used the app to find mine.”

They found two Sports Racer cars, Monster High bags, a toddler DJ set and a DIY jewellery kit in B&M.

Once again, each of the items was just £1.

However, parents will want to download the B&M app if they want to get the bargains themselves.

Checking the app will make sure you get a bargain[/caption]

Many people noted the toys on offer were part of the usual two for £20 deal.

While some were marked on the shelf as £1, others weren’t, which makes the app even more handy.

You can scan every product in store using the app and it will tell you if it’s on sale even if it hasn’t been updated on the shelves yet.

The toy sale was shared on the Facebook group, Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, which boasts more than 2.6 million members.

How to save money at B&M

Shoppers have saved hundreds of pounds a year by using B&M's scanner app.

The scanner lets you see if an item’s price is cheaper than advertised on the shop floor label.

Products that are typically discounted are seasonal items and old stock that B&M is trying to shift.

The app is free to download off the B&M Stores mobile app via Google Play or the Apple App Store.

According to one ex-B&M manager, you’ll want to visit your local branch at 10am on a Wednesday too.

Here’s how you can join the B&M bargain hunt:

  • Download the B&M app for free on any smartphone with an App Store or Google Play.
  • Once you’ve installed it on your device, click on the option labelled “more” on the bottom, right-hand side of the app home page.
  • You’ll then find an option that says “barcode scanner”. Click on this and you’ll open a camera screen.
  • Use the camera to hover over the barcode of the product you wish to check.
  • If the price comes up as lower, take it to the cash desk and it will automatically scan at the lower price.
  • You don’t need to sign up to the B&M app to use the barcode scanner.

Parents were eager to get their hands on the bargains after seeing others’ hauls.

One person wrote: “Great Christmas presents for some.”

Another commented: “Definitely need to go and look.”

“I got a big trolley full as well,” penned a third.

Someone else added: “I managed to get a cheap Barbie style speed boat for £1 but that was the only item left.”

‘I hate it, hate it’ – Premier League official rages at VAR as referee says ‘we knew the monster that had been created’

REF Bobby Madley let rip at VAR, insisting its usage means football will never see another Sergio Aguero moment.

And Madley slammed Prem chiefs for creating a “monster” that is “ruining” the beautiful game.

Referee Bobby Madley has not held back when discussing VAR[/caption]

The Wakefield-born whistler, 39, who takes charge of EFL games and is a fourth official for top-flight matches, raged: “Most fans weren’t clambering to get video technology.

“Players weren’t, referees weren’t, but the multi-million pound people running football had issues with refs getting things wrong.

“But we knew the monster that had been created — we knew what was coming.

“We’ve got to the stage where people go, ‘Sorry, we’re ruining football with this now’.”

There have been a string of controversies since the technology was introduced in 2019.

VAR Lee Mason was axed for failing to rule out a Brentford equaliser against title-chasing Arsenal in 2023 after “forgetting” to draw the offside lines.

Howard Webb’s ref body, the PGMOL, issued an apology to Liverpool when VAR wrongly ruled out a Luis Diaz goal in a 2-1 loss to Spurs the following season.

Aguero’s famous final-game, stoppage-time winner clinched Manchester City’s first title in 2012.

But at the Cheltenham Science Festival, Madley added: “That Aguero moment, where the ref was blowing, nobody’s flagging, you are never going to see that again.

“Because everyone will panic as they check a potential offside 15 seconds ago. VAR takes that emotion away. I hate it, hate it.”

VAR: Imagine the future...

Martin Lipton’s pro VAR view

FAST forward 12 months to May 18, 2025.

After 89 minutes at Molineux, Wolves, needing to win their last game of the season to stay up, are beating Manchester United, who require a point for Champions League football.

A ball over the top sends Rasmus Hojlund racing away. The flag stays down. Hojlund scores. Wolves are relegated.

And on the way home, the dejected Wolves fans see the still image on their phones.

Hojlund was 2ft offside. No question. A shocker.
It means at least a year in the Championship, £100million income drop, a firesale of the squad. While United bank an extra £50m.

But it’s OK. Every  one of those fans, plus smiling boss Gary O’Neil and the  Wolves board, will line up to say: “No worries. It’s what we voted for. Rough with the smooth.”

Yes. And I’ve got a bridge to Ireland to sell you.

Chelsea told they have already made £12m mistake in summer transfer window

Real Betis Balompie v Chelsea FC - UEFA Conference League Final 2025
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca (Picture: Getty)

Chelsea have been warned that they may have already made a costly error just days into the summer transfer window.

A successful end to the season saw Chelsea not only qualify for the Champions League but win silverware after their triumph over Real Betis in the Conference League final.

But Enzo Maresca’s side have been quick to turn their attention to the transfer market as they look to make additions in advance of the Club World Cup.

Up front, Chelsea won the race to sign Liam Delap, beating off interest from Manchester United to secure the Ipswich Town striker’s signature.

And the Blues next focus appears to be upgrading upon their options in goal following an inconsistent season from first-choice keeper Robert Sanchez.

AC Milan captain Mike Maignan has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, although both clubs have ground to concede when it comes to the Frenchman’s valuation.

Milan valued Maignan at around £25million, but Chelsea appear unwilling to stump up that fee for a player who has just one year left on their contract.

Should Chelsea fail to agree a fee with Milan, they may well stick with their current crop of keepers which is set to be boosted by the returning Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders from their respective loans.

But former Premier League winger Jermaine Pennant believes Maresca’s side missed a trick by not seeking to sign Caoimhin Kelleher at the start of the window.

The Republic of Ireland international left Liverpool to join Brentford for a measly £12.5m fee, having previously attracted interest from Chelsea as well as Tottenham.

Liverpool FC v Crystal Palace FC - Premier League
Caoimhin Kelleher attracted interest from Chelsea but ultimately joined Brentford from Liverpool (Picture: Getty)

But Penannt is certain that the Irishman would have represented a major upgrade on the Blues’ current first choice

‘He’s definitely better than (Robert) Sanchez,’ Pennant told talkSPORT when asked if Chelsea should have considered a move for Kelleher.

‘He never let Liverpool down, and when Alisson did get injured, at no point did you worry because he was so comfortable as a number two. Probably the best number two out there.

‘Every time he was in there, he was solid and made some big saves. He wasn’t as good with his feet and sometimes Liverpool had to change because of that, but apart from that, what a great servant.

‘He kept Liverpool in so many games and was a huge part of why they won the league – he played a lot of games last season.’

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy was equally full of praise for Kelleher’s performances whilst at the Merseyside club.

‘He’s remarkable. Not only his ability and coming in and doing what he does but he never moaned or sulked when Alisson came back in after injury – he just got on. And what a snip for just 12 mil. For Brentford, it’s a great deal.’
