“And the skulls must have motivational phrases”
Purist Congress.- The National Action Party (PAN) announced a campaign to “raise awareness” among the population about the importance of replacing the altars of the dead with “pro-life” altars, because – according to them – it is time to “celebrate life and not the skinny one.”
To reinforce their proposal, party legislators presented a formal initiative in the Chamber of Deputies to replace the traditional Day of the Dead altars with versions “more in line with values and life from conception.”
It turns out that they also want to make the altars of the dead in their neutral roe colors

“Altars should highlight the value of life”
“We want to change that culture of celebrating death. It is time to make altars to life, to values and to the children who are yet to be born,” explained the coordinator of the caucus while giving the fuchi to a “Catrina” that adorned the meeting room.
According to the document presented, the new “pro-life” altars would include symbolic elements such as:
-
Live bread, seasoned with caramel “to sweeten existence.”
-
Holy water, but only bottled by friendly companies.
-
Light blue confetti, to represent the ideological purity of the movement.
-
And instead of sugar skulls, skulls with motivational phrases like “God has a plan for you.”
Altars for the dead around November 2 are very popular in Mexico. However, for the Catholic, this tradition must be purified of elements of paganism, such as invoking souls and believing that the dead come to visit us.

For their part, enthusiasts of the anniversary—including “Mamá Coco”—have already responded to the approach with a resounding “don’t stain!”, arguing that “there can’t be a Day of the Dead without altars.” In addition, they warned that they will continue with their traditions intact “even if they want to exchange them for little stamps of the Child Jesus.”
To remain happy: Cuauhtémoc Blanco was playing paddle tennis in the middle of a session of the Chamber of Deputies, and still logged in to say “present.”
