PayPal users have been left struggling to access their accounts after a glitch in the payment service.

Users of the popular online payment service worldwide are reporting issues this afternoon after an outage.

Problem reports have surged on DownDetector, which tracks websites, with most issues relating to log-in.

People are also unable to access the app, which can be used to transfer and receive money.

Customers are reportedly receiving an error message after entering log-in details, saying ‘We’re having some trouble completing your request right now. Please try again shortly, and if it persists let us know.’

PayPal has around 434 million active user accounts globally, and over 10 million websites feature it as a payment option.

Meanwhile, users in the US are reportedly also experiencing issues with Venmo.

One frustrated user claimed on social media they have been ‘locked out of my money’ after issues with both Venmo and PayPal.

Metro has contacted PayPal for a comment.
