Details on who will lead the new James Bond reboot remain up in the air, with no real word on which actor will take the role. But there have been a few favorites in the running of wearing the next tuxedo and driving the fancy Porsche.
Succession star Brian Cox has given his two cents on who he thinks will be a formidable addition in the running to become the next Bond, according to The Independent.
The actor commented that Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy would be an “interesting choice” in a recent discussion on the upcoming second season of the reality competition series 007: Road To a Million.
“It’s only natural that it goes through changes because we start off young and end up old,” said Cox in response to the role of the 007 agent. “Is Cillian Murphy being recommended? I think that would be interesting.”
The Bond reboot is now in the hands of Amazon MGM Studios, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight behind writing the script. He’s also joined by Dune‘s Denis Villeneuve as director.
With Knight part of the reboot, it’s only natural that Murphy could be considered for the role thanks to his standout performance in the crime drama series as Tommy Shelby.
But the list of actors fans want in the role as James Bong is lengthy, with more than a few Hollywood A-listers that fit the bill.
Henry Cavill has been in talks for the longest time among fans to take up the spy role, alongside Harris Dickinson, Tom Holland, Jacob Elordi, Theo James, James Norton, Callum Turner, and even Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Whoever takes the role of the next 007 agent has big shoes to fill after the exit of Daniel Craig. No Time to Die marked his fifth and final outing as the character.
Murphy wrapped filming on the Peaky Blinders movie sequel titled The Immortal Man, set to release sometime in early 2026.
