Through a statement, Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) reported that it has recovered 2.51 million liters of hydrocarbon after the spill in the Pantepec River, Veracruz, attributed to the effects of torrential rains in the region.
Pemex specified that, after just over a week of the spill, “it has recovered 2 million 519 thousand 100 liters of hydrocarbon in ten strategic points located along the Pantepec River and its tributaries.”
This is part of the work to address the leak recorded in the 30-inch Poza Rica–Madero oil pipeline, in the municipality of Álamo Temapache.
He also reported that 755 workers from Pemex, the Ministry of the Navy (SEMAR), the Security, Energy and Environment Agency (ASEA) and the Government of the State of Veracruz remain at work.
Pemex also assured that it continues with social responsibility actions aimed at the well-being of the affected communities. and to this end, it maintains the daily operation of the four Mobile Medical Units (UMM), three in Álamo Temapache and one more in Poza Rica, to offer top-level medical care to the population.
A week ago, the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) of the Government of Mexico reported that the Security, Energy and Environment Agency (Asea) was supervising cleaning work and response actions to the hydrocarbon spill in the aforementioned river.
In the Pantepec River, which is part of the Tuxpan River basin, in the municipality of Álamo Temapache, Veracruz, a hydrocarbon spill was recorded resulting from a leak in an oil pipeline of the state-owned Pemex, affected by the extraordinary rains in the northern region of the state of Veracruz, two weeks ago.
Among the measures implemented are the installation of reinforced containment barriers over the river, the operation of pumping equipment for on-site hydrocarbon recovery and spill control, as well as the total repair of the pipeline.
