People think High School Catfish doc disregards one vital detail that changes everything

Netflix’s Unknown Number: The High School Catfish has still got people hooked weeks after it was released, and people think the documentary disregarded one key detail – people DID suspect Kendra all along, including Khloe’s dad Craig.

The film tells the true story of a Michigan teenager called Lauryn Licari who was sent thousands of messages from an unknown number. It turned out to be her mum Kendra who was the catfish.

Another girl at Lauryn’s school called Khloe Wilson was the key suspect, and at the end of the documentary, her dad makes a surprising comment. He had a feeling it was Kendra sending the messages the whole time.

However, Netflix completely brushes over this and makes it out like nobody had any idea it was the mum, insinuating it was a complete revelation to everyone.

While sitting next to his wife, Craig Wilson says: “I remember within a day or two of our initial interview, I had sent him [police investigator Mike Main] a text message that ‘A very good part of me believes that this is probably Kendra doing this. I don’t know what you know of her Mike, but she’s not a truthful person’.”

“Why didn’t Netflix elaborate more on this thing that Chloe‘s dad said?” one person on Reddit asked. “Throughout most of this documentary, the people interviewed paint Kendra as a normal parent who is very helpful and involved in her community. I get that from an entertainment standpoint, they did this to increase the shock factor when it’s revealed that she was the catfish, but I don’t think they did enough to explain other people’s perspectives of her behaviour.

“Khloe‘s dad said that he thought earlier on that it was Kendra and even mentioned it to the sheriff but then Netflix completely failed to dive into the reasons why he would think that this makes me think that she was probably doing other strange things if they suspected her. It would’ve made sense to touch that more rather than trying to stick to this story that she was some completely normal mum who just happened to wake up one day and start tormenting teenagers out of the blue.”

In an investigation published by The Cut, it was revealed that Craig always “had a hunch” it was Kendra, but this was completely glossed over in the Netflix documentary.

His full text to the sheriff said: “Honestly, Mike I don’t know if you know Kendra or not but you really need to be cautious. There is a pretty good part of me that thinks that she may very well be doing this.”

If everyone had a feeling it was Kendra sending the messages the whole time, it changes everything and makes you wonder: How did it take so long for her to get caught?
