Police arrest suspect in brutal Mamelodi double murder

Police in Gauteng arrested a 38-year-old man after finding the bodies of two young women on the side of a Mamelodi road on Sunday.

Police took the suspect, linked to two murders and an attempted murder, into custody on Monday.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, officers found the bodies of the victims, aged 21 and 22, with gunshot wounds to the head in Mamelodi East Extension 1.

“A double murder investigation has been opened,” Sibeko confirmed.

Mamelodi double murder: Victims identified as Cousins

Police identified the victims as 22-year-old Tshiamo Moramaga and her 21-year-old cousin, Baleseng Moramaga.

They reportedly lived together in a rented room in Mamelodi. A video circulating on social media showed the pair lying on the side of the road in Mahube Valley.

Witnesses said they saw the cousins arguing with a man they knew before the shooting.

Third Victim Survives Mamelodi Shooting

Police later found that the gunman shot a third person, who is now receiving treatment in the hospital.

Sibeko said a joint team comprising detectives from the Gauteng Serious and Violent Crime Unit, Provincial Crime Intelligence, and Mamelodi East detectives tracked down and arrested the suspect at a filling station in Pretoria.

The Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court will hear the suspect’s case on Wednesday, 29 October 2025.

Reward Offered for Information

Before the arrest, the Aubrey Tau Foundation had offered a R250 000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

In a statement, Moja Love founder Aubrey Tau condemned the killings, describing them as brutal and senseless.

He said, “Society cannot allow anyone to murder young women in such a brutal and senseless way, regardless of social media allegations.”
